All-purpose Greeting: a 70′s Flashback

As I was flipping through my mail last week, I came across a Container Store magazine ad that really caught my eye. The ad shows an aerial view of the several bright-colored storage containers. My mind started to race. How could I recreate this image in a handmade greeting card?

Here’s the magazine ad:

I cut out some squares, rounded the corners and the dissected each into four triangles. I arranged the triangles in various ways to see what I liked best. The more I played with the shapes and colors, the more the pattern changed on my page. The inspiration is still there, though. Here’s what I ended up with – an all-pupose card with a rad flashback to the 70′s:

I love the playful reference to The Partridge Family, but the card doesn’t have to be about that. It’s an all occasion greeting – birthday, thank you or just a friendly note.

Quick tip: Find inspiration all around you. Look for color combinations you like or layouts that appeal to you. Turn non-card ideas into amazing cards!
