It’s time for a MOJO Monday sketch challenge, and I am excited to share an idea that popped into my head the very first time I saw the World Treasures stamp set in the 2012-2013 Catalog. I procrastinated turning this idea into a finished project, but here it is!
Today’s sketch was designed by Carole Burrage:
As you know, I love to use stamp images and punches in ways they weren’t originally intended to be used. That’s why I am particularly happy with this card. This is the stamp set that inspired this card:

And here’s my finished project:
The rays of the sun are formed by two peacocks from World Treasures. I stamped the image twice on Whisper White and then snipped the feathers on both (**time consumption alert**) and glued them together. I added a piece of Daffodil Delight that was punched with my 2-1/2 inch circle punch. Just what I wanted!
Helpful tips:
- Don’t forget to add texture. After my card was designed and all the pieces were ready to be glued down, I realized I didn’t add much texture in the pieces behind the sun. It didn’t need a lot of texture, but it definitely needed something. I ran the Pumpkin Pie card stock through the Big Shot in a Chevron Embossing Folder to add a wonderful action to the card.
- It’s OK to play with symbolism in a simple card. The pattern of the Chevron folder mimics the rays of light and heat from the sun. I added the bright pieces of Lucky Limeade and Tempting Turquoise to mimic the grass and sky. More important than the symbolism they provide, the colors are bright and beautiful!
Come back tomorrow! Tomorrow, I will be sharing a helpful tip for easily creating a perfect banner like the one that delivers the sentiment on this card. Please come back tomorrow to check it out! In the meantime, check out the other MOJO Monday sketches here.
