Make a Banner – Perfect Every Time

Yesterday’s project features the sentiment “Live in the Sunshine,” which was stamped on a piece of Whisper White card stock and then trimmed into a banner. With scissors, it is easy to mess up the two [seemingly simple] snips that would turn an ordinary slip of paper into a brilliant banner. Today I want to share a quick tip for easily making a banner out of a strip of paper.

Here’s a close-up of yesterday’s project, followed by step-by-step instructions on how to recreate this look yourself:

1.  I knew I wanted to banner to have a button on the right hand side of the stamped sentiment.  I placed the button on the banner (it’s just sitting there – no adhesive) to get a good idea of where the banner snips should go.  This banner is about 1-1/4″ x 3″.

2. Using my 1″ Square Punch, I punched a square from scrap paper.  I placed a little adhesive on the back of the green square and positioned it on the soon-to-be banner, making sure to line it up exactly where I want it.

3.  I then punched the green square with my [old-school] 1″ square punch, leaving a perfect edge for my banner.

I hope this tip was helpful!  Happy banner making!

    • I had heard about using the square punch to cut the banner edge, but I could never get my punch lined up correctly, so I added the other step to make it work. Thanks, Sharon!

  1. Yay!! A wonderful tip that I am going to put right to use!! I can never get the banner look quite even and have given up – until now! thanks for sharing this wonderful tip!
PS – I took out the ink pads and stamped for the first time last night. I tried the triple time stamping technique and will post on my blog later today. Thanks for jump starting my motivation with all your creativity!

  2. Thank you Brian…love tips like this! I was very frustrated in a special class last Friday night at Convention – all projects (and a few M’n'Takes) had this banner style…and NO square punches…you don’t want to know what my first two looked like…saved the rest to play with at home – LOL!!!!! TFS this wonderful tip!
