PPA142 – The Perfect Color Combination for Halloween

It’s time for another Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge. The colors for this challenge are Lucky Limeade, Pumpkin Pie and Elegant Eggplant, a color combination that is both beautiful and spooky. These colors are perfectly coordinated for an adorable Halloween greeting:

There’s a whole lot of paper snipping and trimming going on in this card. While there are components of this design that are easily reproduced, this definitely isn’t a card you’d want to produce in mass – unless you thoroughly enjoy sitting by yourself at a well-lit table, saying mean and terrible things to tiny snips of paper that keep blowing off the table for no particular reason.

Snipping Images for a Rich Color Effect
It’s a meticulous job, but it’s also a wonderful way to really add rich color to an image. I originally wanted to color in the green, orange and purple with a Blender Pen, but that didn’t give me the solid image I wanted. I decided to stamp the image on multiple sheets of paper, snip out the pieces and then glue them together in one beautiful, colorful image. An hour of snipping and gluing, and I achieved a look that makes me smile. Big hands, little paper snips, tiny bits of paper:20120905-210630.jpg

Trimming Window Frames Dielits to Create New Shapes
Did you look at the Elegant Eggplant border around the witch and think, “That’s not a Stampin’ Up! shape!”? If you did, then you are right – and wrong. I cropped the second-to-the-largest shape from the Window Frames Collection Dielits and then trimmed it down like this:

  • I lined up the square ends of the Window Frames shape along the 1″ line on my paper trimmer, I cut two sides of the cropped image. Here’s one side of the image after I trimmed it at the 1″ mark:

  • Then I placed the image flat (against the side I just trimmed) and trimmed at the square pieces on each side:

Creating a Wave with Adorning Accents Edgelits
I happened upon this wave effect by accident. While prepping for a workshop, I lined up my scalloped edgelit too close to another cropped edgelit, I saw the ribbon effect that could be created if the edgelits were combined and then offset slightly from one another. I tucked this idea away, determined to use it at just the right moment, at a time when I needed something to creatively resemble ric-rac. This is that moment!

  7. Hello! I ran across your site from visiting other sites. Love your work. Thank you for sharing. Since my downline is in California and I’m in Texas — I hope you don’t mind that I share with them. Love your posts. I haven’t posted in almost a year. In fact, just last week, I finally made time to stamp a card after visiting your site. Right now I’m a collector of SU items. Hmmm… Maybe I should just put them up in my China Cabinet to just view like you do with knick knacks. Have a wonderful Thursday! Minnie Cieslak San Antonio,TX
