I Pinned It, Let’s Do It! & Happy Birthday, Wyatt!

I’ve got a really special project for you today!  I’m combining my nephew’s birthday card with an “I Pinned It: Let’s Do It!” project.  Wyatt is my older brother’s youngest son and Garrison’s brother.  Wyatt’s birthday was yesterday, but I waited to share this project with you today.  I hope he loves this card!

If you are new to my blog, then welcome. “I Pinned It: Let’s Do It!” is my attempt to live out my Pinterest likes or repins. I share a project I first found on Pinterest. I show you the link that inspired my design and give you my own quick tutorial on the project. Let’s get started!  Here’s Wyatt’s birthday card:

Here’s what’s cool about this odd-shaped card:

  • Once folded (hold your horses, I’m gonna’ show you how to do it!), you’ll have a pocket on the front and on the inside of the card.  I chose to glue down my front pocket and use the inside one.  The combinations are endless.  Well, they actually do end, but it’s too much work to list them all here.
  • It actually fits into a standard-sized envelope.

Before I walk you through the step-by-steps of how to make this card, here’s the Pinterest link that inspired my creation:

Step-by-Step Tutorial for the Twisted Greeting Card

I’ve taken Kelly’s video tutorial and transcribed it to words and pictures.  You’re welcome.

  • Start with a half sheet of card stock, cut down the middle, lengthwise (4-1/4″x11″).
  • Score the piece of paper from one corner to the other:

  • Fold the card stock along the score lines.  See below.
  • Score the folded sheet again at 5-7/8″ – that’s the halfway mark of the bottom of the card stock.  My Stampin’ Up! bone folder is pointing to the 5-7/8″ mark where I scored.stampwithbrian.com - twisted card tutorial.jpg
  • Here’s what your card looks like when folded in half.  I know you are paying attention, so I don’t have to point out that the folds have created a pocket on the front and on the inside of the card.stampwithbrian.com - twisted tutorial.jpg
  • I glued the front pocket shut.  I left the inside flap opened so I could tuck some money inside before mailing it off.
  • I covered the card front with DSP and trimmed it to fit, covering the front of the card.  Similarly, I cut a piece of card stock to fit the inside of the card.
  • It’s difficult to tell from this picture, but I’m showing how the card fits into a standard envelope.  The flap of the envelope is at the top of the picture, followed by the card on the envelope and my handsome fingers.

I hope you like today’s project, and I look forward to calling Wyatt to hear what he thinks of his crazy card.
