For the Newlyweds

My boss asked me to make a wedding card for one of her neighbors. From the onset Laura let me know that her neighbor is not your run-of-the-mill bride in a fluffy white dress, so the card should be designed as such. This card was to be made for an edgy and trendy, but earthy, woman. While the bride is very girly, the card was not to be a white and silver card.

Immediately, I knew I wanted to work with Everything Eleanor (mostly because it had just arrived in the mail). I also knew I wanted tans and browns with a peekaboo of light pink. I think the end result is elegant and respectful of their wedding day but still unexpected and filled with lots of cool:

Is it wrong that I bought Everything Eleanor just because of that shape (stamped in pink above)?  I will use the other images, but this is the one I really, really wanted.

Tips, Tricks and Reminders:

DSP Envelope Flap

A little DSP goes a long way. To accompany the pattern on the face of the card (from the Festival of Prints Designer Series Paper Stack), I added another piece of the same paper to the flap of the envelope. Here’s how I did it:

  • Run adhesive around the outside edges of an envelope flap. I used a Crumb Cake envelope.stampwithbrian.com - envelope flap.jpg
  • Position a piece of DSP over the flap. I line up the flat edge of the paper along the fold in the flap and the one of the corners of the DSP along the side.stampwithbrian.com.jpg
  • Flip the envelope over. See how the bottom, left corner of the paper lines up with the side of the envelope flap? I told you that’s how I do it. You were paying attention, right? Good. Moving on…stampwithbrian.com.jpg
  • Trim around the edges of the envelope flap, using the flap as your guide.
  • Look at the beautiful flap you made!stampwithbrian.com.jpg

  1. Nicely done! I love the layout and the soft botanical print in your background. Nicely done! (I hope you sold it, that ill’ be Six Bucks Please!)

  2. You’ve created magic with that Everything Eleanor “shape”!! Just curious – Where (oh where!) did this stamp set gets it’s name …?

  3. Beautiful card! No it is not wrong of you to buy a set for one stamp. We all do it. I believe that is the reasoning behind Stampin Up! trying the new promotion of purchasing single stamps from select sets.

  4. Brian – Looks like the white shape is the size of the framelit in Apothecary Accents. Did you cut the pink (stamped) shape by hand?

  5. This is a very pretty card and hit the mark for just being the type of card for the person you described . You don`t see cards this unique for weddings therefore maybe Patti has the right idea . Start selling some of your cards that are show stoppers . I had a friend that made only wedding cards and they were beautiful and she had some of them selling for $10 and $12 . I love what you did with the pink addition . I don`t think you ordered that set for that …fess up …you wanted that bird!!! BTW Barb…they got Eleanor`s name from the same place they got Betsy . And Brian you may have to mail me a card because my swap card hasn`t gotten here yet .

  6. Love this card Brian!! Also love the envelope!! This girl is one lucky person to get such a beautiful card!!
Did you happen to stamp anything inside the card?

  7. Love your color choices! The black framing lends the air of elegance. Gotta love that paper pack…so versatile!

  8. Brian—Love the card! You may have sent me right over the edge for Everything Eleanor. I’ve been tempted and teased, over and over, with this fantastic shape. I might copy you and get it just for that shape. Now that I’ve looked at all the rest of the images for the 100’th time..I’m not sure why I don’t already have it in my collection! Thanks for the moment of clarity! I NEED that set!

  9. Very nice Brian! Love how you decorated that flap. I’ve seen a lot of decorations on the inside of the envelope, but I really love that outside look!

  10. Very classy. Bummed I didn’t make the top ten (replies) today. lol. Everything Eleanor has been perfectly represented here. Sounds like a perfect match for the bride and groom, love it!

  11. That’s funny! I bought the stamp set for the exact same reason!!!

  12. Brilliant! (and beautiful!)

    Brain,
I love the non-traditionalism of the wedding card. And the black definitely adds the elegant factor. It goes without saying that the decorated envelope adds that extra touch. But if you did get paid, $10 would be more reasonable in my humble opinion.

  14. Beautifully done, Brian! I am sure that your boss highly approved and the bride and groom will love this beautiful hand created card…. Thanks for showing how to do the envelope -not rocket science but sometimes (well, okay, often!) I need a visual…now I’ll be decorating all envelopes! Have a great Thursday/Friday/weekend! Oh yes, you are certainly not the first or last to buy a stamp set for only one or two stamps…too bad we can’t pick out what we like when we are not sure about a full set…but not at inflated prices! Ta…!

  15. well, the mail came again and no card ! Wonder where it is ?????

    • Sonny, Are you serious?!? I know that it went out with all the others. Eeek. I don’t remember which one I sent to you, but I will make one and send to you. Special just for Sonny. I hate that this happened because I know how excited you were about the swap.

  16. Beautiful card Brian. I really like your color combo and the way you decorated your envelope. Great job.

  17. Hey Brian, you don`t really have to send me a card(course I`d love one) Maybe it may show up tomorrow . I`ll let you know … Wonder why some people think your brown on the card today is black?? I will tune in tomorrow …
