We’ve Got Ourselves a Hexagon!

It’s important to stay on-point with all the latest crafting trends.  A year ago, banners were everywhere.  Little banners.  Big banners.  Wavy banners. Straight banners.  We couldn’t get enough of them.  Today, it seems that hexagons are the popular item, showing up in every craft magazine and every craft project.  These little, six-sided honeycomb shapes are everywhere.  Although Stampin’ Up! doesn’t have any hexagons in its current collection of stamps and accessories, there will be some exciting surprises for hexagon-lovers in the much-anticipated Spring Catalog.  Look for them in January!

Oh, but wait just one minute!  Stampin’ Up! DOES have a hexagon in its current offerings, but you might have looked right past it.  Here’s a card I made with these trendy little fellows:   stampwithbrian.com - hexagons.jpg

What’s the matter?  You don’t recognize this stamp set?  You don’t know where I came up with that shape?  You don’t remember seeing that beautiful design?  Sounds like it’s a perfect time for another “guess which stamp set I used” game.  You enjoyed it so much last time.  If you know the stamp set, shout it out right now.  Well-played, my friend.  If you don’t, then I’ll give you some hints because I think you can get this one (just kidding, it’s really hard)…tab down…

Still haven’t guessed?  Well, I’ll go ahead and tell you.  The stamp set I used is Jewish Celebration.  This beautiful set features a menorah and a gorgeous Star of David medallion.  Take a look at the center of the medallion:20121117-203115.jpg

Right there in the center is a little hexagon, just waiting to be stamped and trimmed.  There’s no measuring necessary.  Just trim on the insides of the stamped lines, and you’ve got yourself a beautiful hexagon.  You’re welcome!

Stamp sets:  Jewish Celebration, Curly Cute  Papers:  Basic Black, Whisper White, Daffodil Delight, Melon Mambo, Gumball Green  Inks:  Basic Black, Gumball Green  Accessories:  Pearl Basic Jewels, Stampin’ Dimensionals

  1. Hi Brian,
Hexagons must be on multiple brains. I was playing with my Jewish Celebrations yesterday and suddenly saw that hexagon shape and started pondering what to do with it. Thanks for lifting the idea from a fuzzy notion to a beautiful execution. Now I have to go create my own.

  2. Goodness Brian, you are a teaser, you had me thinking and thinking at 5:30 am. (my hubby had to work today and he leaves at 5) I scrolled down slowly, trying to figure this one out. I went back to the top, looked long and hard at that beautiful card you made, straining my poor brain that is not fully awake yet, took another sip of my coffee, looked again…..nothing!! then I read your hints, one by one, going back to the card…..nothing!! then, finally I gave up, I had to look at the answer and there it was, that stamp set that I’ve passed by so many times while looking at the Holiday Catalog. You are amazing, you have vision, you have that ability to look at something and then turn it into something else totally different. Are you sure you are an accountant??? well, you very well might be that but you have the soul of a designer. I hope SU has some kind of hexagon die in that Spring Catalog, I don’t think I will have the patience to cut this shapes by hand. FABULOUS CARD, really, FABULOUS!!!!!

  3. Marvelous creation.

  4. Morning, Brian!
I thought your hexagons were stamped from snowflakes until I started scrolling down and
saw that the stamp came from the holiday catalog … you are a great set if extra eyes pointing out things we may have missed over and over as we thumb through our catalogs.
That has to be part of the “accountant” in you with an attention to detail! Thanks, yet again!
    🙂

  5. Attention to detail! That’s it! Suzie has you pegged! I too, racked my brain as to what that might be. Then I searched the stamp set you provided looking for the hexagon and only saw it when you pointed it out in the center image. I agree, hexagons are All the Rage! Can’t wait to play with them more! Love the card Brian! Love it!

  6. Yay you! That’s really thinking outside of the hexagon. Your card is awesome, definitely worth all of the trimming you had to do. I can’t wait for a hexagon punch or dies and I’m excited to see what other goodies the spring mini has. Happy stampin’!

  7. Did you notice Brian.., that the middle of the star also could be used as a hexagon.

  8. What an eye you have! I keep meaning to play with my hexagon punch on MDS but haven’t yet!

  9. That is truly showing how clever you are !!! ….I found it after you told us which catalog …btw the samples SU pictured above are pretty, aren`t they ? Now…long ago…once upon a time… I bought a hexagon punch that had a large and a smaller one that you can layer …at that time they had other shapes that the sold for layering for your scrabook layouts …I still have it !! Now I will be scanning my catalog pages this afternoon during the Panthers game trying to be more detail observant …. Hey Brian…that would be a fun swap ….Image Conversion Cards !!! …..Ta Dah !

  10. Marvelouos…now I am off for the day hexagon shopping. 🙂

  11. Oh, you are so very clever!

  12. Very clever! Yes, you had me thinking! Loved the suspense! Lol.
