The 2013 Spring Catalog is HERE!

The Spring Catalog hatched yesterday, and it’s filled with a ton of beautiful things.  If you haven’t seen it yet, take a look (click on the catalog below):20130103_SpringCatalog_na

Some of you are getting a first peek at the new catalog online. Others have looked through printed copies of the catalog and have already picked out the items you want most. Either way, I want to help you with your list, so I challenged myself to narrow down my favorites to just five items.  Just five?  Argh!  Why do I do this to myself?  I’m so in love with so many of the items – the Tea Time trinkets, the Tea for Two DSP, the Bitty Butterfly punch, Ciao Baby, That’s the Ticket, that incrdible Scoring Plate – but those didn’t make the list of my five favorites.  Here goes nothing.

BRIAN’S TOP FIVE FAVORITE THINGS IN THE NEW CATALOG (and these are in order, starting with my most favorite):

1 – PRINT POETRY DESIGNER SERIES PAPER STACK (#129312), p. 16

I have a soft spot in my heart for some beautiful printed paper.  If you have been following my blog over the past several months, then you know how much I loved the Festival of Prints DSP Stack from the Holiday Catalog.  How could I live without it?  How could anything else measure up to my love affair with Festival of Prints?  Well, Print Poetry really steps up to the plate.  It’s masculine on one side and beautifully feminine on the other side.  The patterns are absolutely versatile.  You can’t go wrong with this pack.

2 – OVALS COLLECTION FRAMELIT DIES (#129381), p. 4

Why would I need an Ovals Collection of framelits when I’ve got the Labels Collection and Hearts Collection and Floral Frames Collection and Window Frames Collection that I already use so much?  Terrible logic, huh?  If I am using the others so much (which I am), then how can I go wrong with the ovals?  I bought these to “round out” my collection and didn’t anticipate I’d use them so much.  At every turn, I have a great way to use these framelits.  I almost have to edit myself away from them so that I don’t have Oval Overload.  Remember my nasty habit with Baja Breeze?

3 – HEARTS A FLUTTER BUNDLE (#131098 wood, #131097 clear), p. 11

I love a good deal, and Stampin’ Up!’s bundles are just that.  This stamp set and framelits bundle is an excellent deal.  There’s just so much you can do with these shapes!  Sure, it’s themed as a Valentine’s-ish set, but did you see those banners?!  Why wouldn’t you use those for every occasion throughout the year?  I am in love with this set and am so happy to have it.

4 – HONEYCOMB TEXTURED IMPRESSIONS EMBOSSING FOLDER (#129378), p. 6

Hexagons have been all the rage in the craft world for some time.  I’ve not paid much attention…until now.  I absolutely love the Honeycomb Embossing Folder.  In fact, it’s my third favroiate thing in the catalog.  🙂  Stampin’ Up! made sure you didn’t get just a pile of hexagons – you get beautiful texture by the fact that there are spaces between the edges of the hexagons.  Look at the closeup above.  The number one question I’ve received lately (other than “why are you so handsome?”) is whether there’s a punch to coordinate.  There’s not.  BUT, run some DSP through the folder and then snip just inside the lines.  Voila!  Like the Woodgrain Embossing Folder from the Holiday Catalog (still available, by the way), the Honeycomb Folder yields very deep ridges.  If you are embossing on Very Vanilla or Whisper White, just add a piece of copy paper to prevent breaking of the card stock.

5 – SILVER BASICS DESIGNER BUTTONS (#129325), p. 20

Who’d have ever thought I would love buttons?  You can look though all my projects from last year and find [maybe] 3 buttons.  I think about them all the time, but they never seem to make the cut.  THESE GUYS, however, ARE AWESOME!  If you thought they’d be wimpy, little buttons, then think again.  A container of these buttons weighs about 17 pounds (exaggerated), and they feel like ancient coins – sturdy and heavy.  Cha-ching!  I can’t wait for you to see these!  You’ll love them.

Thanks for listening.  I’m so glad you can now look at the catalog.  Let me know what you think.  What’s YOUR favorite thing in the catalog?  I’d love to hear!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

Brian

It’s not too late!  You’ve seen the gorgeous papers and accessories in the catalog, but it’s not too late to join in one of my product shares.  Get your hands on a wide selection of the items in the catalog and still save up for your January 22 purchases (during Sale-a-Bration, you get more “bang” for your “buck”).  To see the options, click here.  And don’t forget about my Designer Series Paper Swatchbooks here.

  1. Good morning, Brian. Well, from this list of your favorite things, I can find a couple of my favorites, the honeycomb embossing (P6) folder and the buttons (P20). Some of my other favorite things from the catalog are the Secret Garden bundle (P17), that beautiful and bold butterfly (P18) (I think it’s kind of big, though), the Simply Scored borders plate (p26), those super Cute Clips (P28), the Rain or Shine stamp set (P30) and the Sizzlits Pinwheel die (P33), I can see my grandkids having lots of fun using this die. I’m making my list and, this time, I AM CHECKING IT TWICE, I can’t trust myself after what happened with that cute stamp in the Holiday Catalog. Sheeeeesh!!

    • Maria, I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who ordered things twice…I now have 2 – same sets of stamps (argh!)…I simply MUST check my list twice. ;D

      • Hey Sharon: I didn’t order twice…..I FORGOT TO ORDER A STAMP, GRRRRR!! and this stamp was from the Holiday Catalog. I noticed this the day after it expired, oh! so sad indeed. Oh well, that’s what happens when a grandma, with her 5 grandkids at the house, tries to multi-task.

      • Sharon, Maria, I have done both of those things. You know what I do with things I ordered twice because I can’t remember from one day to the next? I wrap it up all nice and cute, and when I have a workshop, I have the guests put their name on a piece of paper, and I draw a name and someone wins it. 🙂 They MUST come to the workshop for the freebie, and MUST place a $ 20 order in order to quality. Works like a charm! As for forgetting to order something, sadly Maria, that’s a real bummer! I then wait to see if someone else has it on Ebay ..

    • Oh, Maria, I have done that, too! {Blush}

  2. I can’t wait to get the Simply Scored plate and the Print Poetry paper stack

  3. I need to sit down and try to pick out my top 5 products. Not an easy task. Your picks are definite winners.

  4. New catalogs are so exciting! Thanks for sharing your top 5!

  5. Brian, I am loving these, also. I got that wonderful impression plate and can’t wait to use it on my next card! Oh, and those buttons are a MUST HAVE!! I so love them and they look so classy on my cards!
    Have a wonderful day!

  6. There are lots of fun things to play with in this new catalog…. I bet it was hard getting it down to five. All of the new papers look great. I`m so glad that I have the dsp shares coming because that really helps me decide. I have really gone back and forth about that huge butterfly…it`s beautiful but it is gynormous . But…I have to have it!! I`m going to do folders and use it on the front !!! And what fun to sit and color that bad beauty on a cold afternoon. I love Spring Sampler for the variety of images. And any framelet is a winner with me as well as the embossing folders. Oh and the new Paper Piercing Pack . Now Brian how about some SAB selections??? You know I might have to look at those buttons you like again…Shoot, I didn`t order the Embellishment Shares …then I could see them in the real first !!! Okay…this was fun…. later….

  7. “The Spring Catalog hatched yesterday”……..this made me smile. So cute!

  8. Brian, your picks are great… I have most of those, but just got my order today and am getting ready to bust open the box to reveal that wonderful paper stack. It’s because of what you said that I ordered it, so I’m sure it will be awesome. Question though, for you or your readers: Do you know if that diagonal scoring plate and the new designer scoring plate works on a Martha Stewart scoreboard? (I know….. don’t say a word, but I had hers before I became a demo).
