A Simple Thank You

Cards don’t have to be complicated.  While it’s nice to go over-the-top every once in a while (did you see yesterday’s ribbon-weaving project?), it’s not necessary to reinvent the wheel every time you sit down to create a beautiful card.  A heartfelt sentiment can be expressed with even the simplest card layout.  Here’s a simple card I made with a simple layout:  20130331-201532.jpg

Tips, Tricks and Reminders:

  • The Tag.  Since the announcement of the Spring Catalog, I have been crazy over these tags from the Pop-up Posies Designer Kit.  I’ve used them as tags on a gift box and to mount a gorgeous cross for an Easter card.  Here, I embossed a simple Thank You in white.  The sentiment fits perfectly on the tag.
  • The Layers.  The starting points for this card are the tag and this Designer Series Paper from World Spectacular.  While Soft Suede and Crumb Cake don’t exactly match the color of the tag (the tag color is somewhere between the two), they complement it nicely.  I repeated the layers (Soft Suede/Crumb Cake/Calypso Coral) from the outside of the card on the inside of the card.  Adds interest to this simple piece.
  • Sponging.  When creating the repeated layers, I knew that Calypso Coral card stock would be too bold as the layer below the tag.  Instead, I sponged a piece of Whisper White card stock with Calypso Coral ink.  I lightly sponged the edges and then swiped the sponge from the center outward.  Without the tag, this piece is quite atrocious.  With the tag, the piece is a perfect addition to this card.

  1. I like this card …. it`s different and can be used with other greetings quite well. You brought to mind that I need to stretch my sponging ….I can`t quite get the look I want here of late with it. Now, you made me think I should do a whole piece of cardstock with the intention of adding a color to WW …. I will give that a try this afternoon …. Thank you very much , O Club President ….!! (that`s O…not Old …) Giggle ….

  2. It’s gorgeous. You must have sponged and blended well as I barely notice that panel is Whisper White! Nice job.

  3. I love sponging, it adds so much softness and definition to paper and makes for a pretty frame for the main image. I agree that a piece of Calypso Coral would have been way to strong for the tag but sponging this pretty color on Whisper White was just what you needed to finish this card. The Baker’s Twine touch is the perfect little embelishment.

  4. Always a need for “thank you” cards … and you have gotten good use, again, Brian, out of the PUP Designer Kit! Flawless sponging, by the way, too. Thank you, Brian. 😉

  5. Brian only you can think of such pretty simple cards, love it !! and I hope your filling better, and all is well , we miss you , just knowing you we’re in the Hospitol !!

  6. I would never have thought that color combo would work but it sure does. It’s always great to have a few extra Thank You cards on hand. Nice job.
