This month’s blog hop will showcase new products from the 2013 Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog. We hope you enjoy seeing how we use the new stamps, new punches and other accessories!

You should have just left stop number 20 on the Pals Hop – Kerry Willard Bray at Stampgoodness. If so, you are in the right spot. If you get off track, the full blog lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all of the amazing creations.

SO THANKFUL

I have a thousand things to be thankful for this year (I try to maintain this perspective every year, but this year has been particularly awesome).  Today’s project celebrates the release of the 2013 Holiday Catalog and honors the overwhelming spirit of gratitude I feel as the weather starts to change (Dear Autumn, Please get here really soon because I love you and miss you.  Love, Brian).  Here’s my project:  Magnificent Maple, Thankful, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • White Embossing Powder Pops.  I am in love with this Magnificent Maple image – a striking outline of the maple leaf’s veins – it’s almost an x-ray of the elegant leaf.  There are a thousand ways to make this image pop (stamping in different colors, watercoloring over a stamped image, embossing in different colors on white cardstock), but I’m partial to the pop of white embossing powder on colored cardstock.  The embossing powder lets the paper provide the color and truly celebrates the lines of this leaf.
  • Non-traditional shape.  It’s important to mix things up every once in a while.  This card is long and slender (the Chocolate Chip base measures 9″ x 7-1/2″ and is scored at 3-3/4″ to make a 9″ x 3-3/4″ card front).  The measurements could easily be scaled down a bit to fit into a standard business envelope.  Inside?  A letter to share my gratitude – a note on an 8-1/2″ x 11″ piece of notepaper will fold into thirds and slip easily inside this card.
  • Three leaves, three colors.  I like things in threes – it just seems to support a perfect balance.  Three leaves in three different colors.  How did I select the colors?  I started with Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper (perfect for a Thanksgiving project) and selected three of the Autumn colors represented in the paper:  Chocoloate Chip, Tangerine Tango and Crushed Curry.Magnificent Maple, Thankful, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Stamp sets:  Magnificent Maple, Thankful  Papers:  Chocolate Chip, Whisper White, Tangerine Tango, Crushed Curry, Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper  Accessories:  White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Chocolate Chip Stampin’ Write Marker, Hexagon punch (used to clip the banner edges)

I hope you enjoyed my project!

  1. What a nice card to invite Autumn to join us. I would not have considered white as a choice to put in my mix for this particular season . But it works and especially with that beautiful leaf . Well done and hats off to you with a grateful spirit .

  2. Laurie Burns Gachewicz

Right Sonny, I would not have thought of white either, but it is quite striking and definitely makes those 3 detailed leaves pop!!! Gorgeous card Brian!!!! And what a great idea to write a nice long note of gratitude on 8 1/2 by 11 paper & fold it inside!! 🙂 TFS!!

  3. Great card! I never make the long skinny kind but your’s is so nice with those leaves. I can almost feel the crispness in the air! I would appreciate summer staying a bit longer though. 🙂

  4. Lovely card. I really like the white embossing.

  5. The leaves are gorgeous with the white! I do love fall!

  6. Absolutely gorgeous card. I love the idea of making cards that fit in a standard size business envelope. First of all, people don’t expect a beautiful card to come out of one of those envelopes and secondly, the business card envelopes are much less expensive thereby leaving $$$ for stamping supplies. Yeah!

  7. How neat! The leaves almost look like they have a titch of frost on them. Very impressive. Thanks for sharing with us.

  8. Wow, I never would have thought of using white to emboss the leaves. Love the shape of the card, too!

  9. Love the white embossing on the leaves, Brian. Fall is my favorite season! Always enjoy your work.

  10. Love what you did with the leaf, Brian! The leaf on the cover of the catalog didn’t speak to me, but cutting them out in a trio of fall colors does. Great card!

By the way, I got my Accessories Product Share. Thanks so much for that. That was speedy! *Love* what I got!!!

  11. Stunning card!

  12. Love, Love, Love it!

  13. love the long card and leaves in white.
    hugs, m

  14. Your last name says it all….you are “the King” !!! Again – a over the top beautiful card…I am totally with you on fall…my favorite time of the year…love the odd size cards…always creates a fun twist! xoxox

  15. Gorgeous Brian! So warm and have to agree… Autumn is the best!

  16. I haven’t played with this stamp yet, so you just made me decide to play with it next! Great card – as always!

  17. Lovely card, Brian! I love the white embossing and the DSP you layered with the leaves. It’s fun to see a different size card now and then. Wish SU still had those long envies. Thanks for sharing an awesome Thanksgiving/Fall card!

  18. This makes me want to throw on a hoodie and go jump in a pile of leaves! This is really an awesome card Brian!

  19. I love to see your cards, always crisp, clean, and inspiring…today is no exception 🙂 Just awesome!

  20. Your post today is most fitting here in Ohio. Our weather is fall like. Low 70’s and 40’s at night for the next few days. This is just fine for me, since fall is my favorite time of year. So your card is just down right perfect in every way. Thank you Brian for your brilliant creations everyday. 🙂

  21. you are truly an inspiration, your cards, your attitude, your humor, your thinking outside of the box! May your star continue to rise! this card in another example of your being able to do something that many commenters said “i would never have thought to do that!”

  22. Brian I love the way you embossed those leaves with the white embossing powder. What a classy look. Thanks for the inspiration!

  23. BEAUTIFUL! Your use of the white embossing powder is genius. You’ve ‘enabled’ me to buy that stamp now. Thanks Brian.

  24. Oh Brian….I am so in love with your card (well, of course you too!)….and agree that odd numbers are the best in multiples of . Your card boasts of being plain and simple, yet this description is often a misnomer for mainly non Wow cards…. Your color choices and overall design are magic! TFS~)
