Atlanta Regionals – Day One

Because we are having our Atlanta Regional this weekend, I’m on a one-day time delay.  By the time you are reading this, the entire full-day event is over, and I’m probably passed out in bed, recapping all the amazing things we did yesterday.  Today, though, I’m going to fill you in on my Friday events and share my super-simple swap card.  By Monday or Tuesday, I should be able to share additional pictures and tales from our event.  You don’t want to miss those.

I spent most of my Friday at the airport, waiting for six of the weekend’s guests who flew in.  While they were all scheduled to arrive one-right-after-the-other, we know it doesn’t always work that way.  My phone was constantly abuzz with “late leaving the terminal” and “flight delayed.”  That was fine with me, though, because I was content with the fact that all these lovely women were traveling to Atlanta to partake in the fun that Pam, Katy and I had planned for them.  Linda Callahan was the first to arrive, followed quickly by Debbie Crowley and Martie Hillyer.  Patty Carbonell was close behind, followed by Cheryl Campbell.  Most of the ladies headed to the hotel, where Pam was anxiously awaiting their arrival.  Linda, Cheryl and I waited for Mary Fish who arrived a couple of hours later (and about 7 hours after she was originally scheduled to arrive).  No matter to me.  I had a wonderful time chatting it up with these wonderful women.

The four of us hopped on MARTA (Atlanta’s train system) late at night to head to the hotel.  My favorite moment was when we got off the train.  Mary announced that she is extremely claustrophobic and wanted me to verify that we had not traveled underground or through any tunnels on our trip.  It was dark out, so I just said, “No, not at all.”  I am a good liar when I need to be.Atlanta Get Together with Pals - Mary Fish, Brian King, Linda Callahan

As part of the event, folks came with swap cards.  I want to share mine, a quick-and-easy card with the new Map It Out Photopolymer stamp set.  Here’s my card:

Map It Out Photopolymer, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

The addition of the “welcome” sentiment from Sweetly Framed (hostess set) turns this textbook map into a hospitable welcome note.  I framed the map with a thin layer of Gumball Green and then mounted it on a card base of Island Indigo.  Not only do these colors look fantastic together, but the blue is representative of the ocean.  Incidentally, I realize the ocean doesn’t surround the U.S. on all sides, but I wasn’t a very good sketch artist when I tried to add in Mexico and Canada with my Stampin’ Write Marker.  I decided to just let that go.  🙂

Stamp sets:  Map it Out Photopolymer, Sweetly Framed (hostess)  Inks:  Gumball Green, Island Indigo  Papers:  Island Indigo, Gumball Green, Whisper White  Accessories:  Stampin’ Dimensionals

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

Please Brian, use your influence and get SU to make a map of Canada, they wouldn’t have as many provinces or territories to abbreviate as they did states!

I’m extremely envious that you had the opportunity to spend a weekend working side by side with Mary Fish – she’s my other favorite (along with you)!! I know you had a fabulous time, and I’m looking forward to hearing more of what you share with us in coming days. And who needs sleep? You can always do that next weekend.
