An Easter Blessing with The Pals Paper Arts

Yippee Doodle Dee!  It’s Thursday!  That means I’m sharing a project for this week’s challenge from The Pals Paper Arts.  The wonderful sketch this week is completely flexible – it’s simple enough to inspire a clean card, and it’s rich enough to inspire a complex, vintage card.  My card is a clean design with many, many layers.  Here’s my project:

Petite Petals, Everything Eleanor, Delightful Dozen, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA

And here’s Margaret Moody’s sketch that inspired my card:PPA192Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • An Old Friend, Transformed.  I was happy reaching for this emblem from Everything Eleanor.  It was like having lunch with an old friend – not an elderly friend but a friend from long ago.  I instinctively wanted to heat emboss this beauty in Smoky Slate on Basic Gray card stock.  I had no idea what I would do with it when I was done.  When it was complete, though, the image appeared as a large stone.  I decided at that moment that this would be an Easter card – the stone, the flowers, and bright yellow ray.  Do you see it?
  • Adding Coral.  I am in love with this Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper.  So many beautiful colors are washed right onto the paper.  My card started with this particular piece of paper that showcases stripes of Smoky Slate, Daffodil Delight and Crushed Curry.  I love this piece of paper, but I needed to add a pop of color to the gray and yellow hues.  It wasn’t until I decided to add flowers that I realized Calypso Coral would be a perfect accent to these shades.  While Calypso Coral is not in the Designer Series Paper design, it complements these colors nicely.
  • Stamping a Sentiment on an Embossed Background.   When I decided on an Easter theme, the rest of the card fell into place.  I knew I wanted the sentiment to be featured on the emblem.  I took a risk and found that it worked – I was able to properly stamp the sentiment on the heat embossed image with StazOn.  I’m sure someone else has done it, but it worked.  Yippee!

Stamp sets:  Petite Petals, Delightful Dozen, Everything Eleanor  Papers:  Basic Gray, Smoky Slate, Calypso Coral, Whisper White, Daffodil Delight, Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper  Inks:  Daffodil Delight, Calypso Coral, Jet Black StazOn  Accessories:  Smoky Slate Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Petite Petals punch, Pearls Basic Jewels, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll check out the projects from this week’s design team at The Pals Paper Arts.

  2. Very striking … I like the way you used the Smoky Slate Embossing Powder on your sentiment base. It does have the look of stone! Adding the flowers definitely softened the card … Good job, Brian.

  6. Sweet and fabulous card, Brian. Love the way you made the “stone” background for the stamped sentiment, not to be creepy or anything but, this could work wonders at Halloween. You are the King of Layers, my dear!! I counted 9!!! including the card base and the flowers, amazing indeed and beautiful.

  10. Taking a risk? Glad you did. The sentiment turned out nice a crisp. Never thought about stamping on embossed images. Assumed it would looked blurred. Goes to show you, don’t assume anything. Lovely card.

  11. Great card Brian – the Calypso Coral really popped everything out. Although the design is great I don’t think it would have shone so gloriously without that addition of the Calypso Coral. Loved it!

Hey Brian, I just noticed you have 1,772 followers! WOW That’s as many as some of these “rock stars” have. I knew you were the King but I didn’t realize how large of a “Kingdom” you commanded. LOL

  12. Beautiful card Brian. The Watercolor Wonder is one of my favorite designer papers. I have fallen in love with the Petit Petals bundle and I think the flowers add dimension to your card. Awesome job

  18. Beautiful, and breathtaking! SO thoughtful in your comments on your design. Definitely an inspiration for me! The label as the stone, perfect! and yellow sun light!

  19. Gorgeous embossed frame! You are a pro at embossing. I must do more of it to do better at it. Love the striped paper and pretty flowers, too!

  20. Love love love the card! The stone, flowers and ray of yellow – so perfect for Easter! I was tempted to get Everything Eleanor because of the flourish (not crazy about the flowers in it and already have plenty of flower stamps anyway), but you may have tipped me over the edge as well. 🙂 Maybe next time you use this set you can do a card that will change my mind about the flowers and then I’ll HAVE to get Everything Eleanor!
