I took some liberties with this week’s Pals Paper Arts sketch challenge. PPA212 presents us with a strip and three shapes. Rather than to create my three shapes as pronounced on the card, I created them as part of the background. Sneaky, huh? Here’s my card:
- Pattern Repetition. Did you notice that both stamps have a similar pattern? Both Age Awareness and Mosaic Madness have filled-in spaces with thin, vertical lines. Once I noticed this, I knew I’d want to combine these images on a card. This sketch challenge was the perfect opportunity for me to combine them.
- The order of Things. There’s not just one way to do things, but I’m happy to share my process for stamping this image. When balancing a set of three items, I generally add the left and right items and balance the middle item between the two. Because I was also incorporating the sentiment from Age Awareness, I started with the center shape from Mosaic Madness and then stamped the large sentiment, followed by the remaining Mosaic Madness shapes and finally the smaller sentiment.
- The Importance of Frames. The frame around your project can be just as important as what’s inside. For this project, I extended the Whisper White base of the central card piece into the border beneath. The card would take on a completely different look if I had left this layer out or if I had, instead, used a patterned paper or darker paper.
