Be Joyful, Dear Heart

I’m in love with the Designer Series Paper patterns in Stampin’ Up!’s Holiday Catalog.  As I flipped through all of them this past weekend, making swatch books and dividing up paper shares, several patterns really jumped out at me – and I couldn’t wait to sit down and create with them.  Here’s a card I made with Santa & Co. Designer Series Paper:

  • Inspired by Paper.  I love this page of Santa & Co. Designer Series Paper – although the patterns are abstract doodles, they remind me of the roof of a little chalet in the mountains.  I knew I wanted to use this winter theme as a backdrop for this card – the wooden frame from Dear Heart, a new photopolymer set, was perfect for the woodsy feel. The little boy with the winter cap was a perfect addition.Dear Heart
  • Using Blendabilities.  I’m no master of alcohol markers, but I love the Blendabilities.  I mostly use them to cleanly color in an image.  The Color Lifter is perfect for adding a little texture to the colored images – just swipe the Color Lifter over the colored area to pull up a little of the color.  You can see that I lifted some of the color from his hair and a lot of color from the pompom on his hat.Dear Heart, Project Life Holiday Cheer, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Warm Color Combination.  I just love this color combination – Soft Suede, Real Red and Whisper White.  I didn’t come up with it – I was just inspired by the Designer Series Paper – I include the colors on the back of my Designer Series Paper swatch books for quick reference (just in case you want to quickly identify the colors).  If you like this color combination as much as I do, feel free to save this:Color Inspiration, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

  1. Brian, as soon as I saw the picture of your card, I immediately thought of a the roofs of little houses in Switzerland, it makes for a beautiful background for this sweet little boy’s face, perfect coloring too. The frame truly adds to the feel of a Winter card, beautifully done!

  8. I am IN LOVE with this card!!!!!!!!! Okay, I’m going to honest here and say that I have put off buying this UBER cute stamp set for two reasons: 1. I was on hold about photopolymer until I started working with Holiday Home and now I know that photopolymer has a BIG spot in my stamping life, and 2. I have been pouting because I missed buying the girl set. I’m heading to the store to buy this stamp set because I have 9 grandsons and only 2 granddaughters. Sheesh, the guys win again. LOL

  9. Love it, Brian ! What a sweet guy – who told you that you can not colorate – he is wonderful ! Love the colour combo too , very good for christmascards :). Thank you, I’m looking forward to tomorrow …
