Oh My Goodies! for PPA

I had a lot of fun with this week’s PPA delicious color challenge – Cherry Cobbler, Baked Brown Sugar and Very Vanilla.  I’ve been using a lot of Crumb Cake lately (also very delicious), so it was nice to add in a little Baked Brown Sugar.  Here’s my card:

Oh My Goodies, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA230And here’s this week’s color challenge banner that inspired my creation: PPA230

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Where’s Your Focus?  I love this image from Oh My Goodies.  Love it!  But haven’t really known how to use it – is “Oh My Goodies!” something you say where you live?  For some reason, this color challenge granted me the right to use a sentiment I’ve never used before.  Thanks, PPA!  If I’ve done my job, then your eye goes straight to the oval sentiment – everything about this card (the colors, the layers, the textures) is is designed to draw your eye there.  If your eye doesn’t go right to the sentiment, then either I’ve not succeeded or you need to visit your ophthalmologist.  🙂
  • Layering.  If you’ve ever studied my cards, you might have expected me to fill the Cherry Cobbler with Very Vanilla, leaving only a small frame of Cherry Cobbler.  I admit I was tempted, but I resisted this time because I really wanted the layering on the Deco Labels to be the highlight of this card.  The smaller panel of Very Vanilla pulls your eye (or, at least, my eye) right to the adorable sentiment.
  • Added Texture.  The thick baker’s twine also adds a “draw your eye in” element to this card.  The oval sentiment is centered right along the three strands of twine.  The strands serve to anchor the sentiment and highlight the popped up center of the image, as well.
  • Oh!  One More Thing.  I just wanted to point out the little red heart in the center of the sentiment.  I inked this image in Baked Brown Sugar, wiped the ink off the heart with a Blender Pen and then inked the heart with a Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Write Marker.  It’s a small detail, but I wanted to make sure you didn’t miss it.

    Just love it Brian !!

  5. This is a wonderfully design card, each element is carefully and perfectly placed. The 3 lines you made with the thick Baked Brown Sugar Baker’s Twine immediately caught my eye, they made me look at the cute wording of the sentiment with it’s pretty frame.
    Thank you for sharing. 🙂

  6. Honestly Brian – how do you manage to keep the twine so perfectly spaced and aligned? Like Maria, it was the twine that caught my eye and drew it to the sentiment which, by the way, I think is very cute. I also love the oval inside the deco label. Great pairing if you ask me. Terrific job, as always. 🙂

  7. Very cute. This is just my style!

  8. Love that bakers twine. And the super thick border around the sentiment. That seems almost anti-BK, being so thick, but it is the perfect set up for the dimension of the bakers twine. Nice!

  9. Great card Brian. I love the shape of the Deco Label framelits so that grabbed my focus. The colors sound like something good to eat and they definitely came together to make a delicious card. Awesome job Brian

  11. So stinkin’ adorable! I’m CASEING, CASEING, CASEING, CASEING it! Looking at it just makes me HAPPY! : ) HAPPY! HAPPY! HAPPY! I think I need to go make a Cherry Cobbler with Baked Brown Sugar topping and a dollop of Very Vanilla whipped cream, put this card on top of it and give to a neighbor!

You never cease to amaze. Your creations are always so delightful and inspiring!

  12. Brian, another stunner,,…another winner! I love the whole color combo and the way you changed that tiny heart into cherry cobbler is something that only you would think of. You are SO creative!
