Your Perfect Day – a Sneak Peek for PPA233

I hope you all are having a super-wonderful Christmas and that you are surrounded by the people you love (unless you choose to be alone – then I wish you that).  While I’m celebrating this wonderful holiday today, the blog must keep moving along.  I’ve created a beautiful, Springy wedding card for this week’s Pals Paper Arts Challenge.  Here’s my card:

Your Perfect Day, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA233

And here’s the challenge banner that inspired my creation:PPA233Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Sage Advice.  A wise man once said, “Rules provide guard rails.  You are safe to bounce around inside the guard rails as long as you don’t bust through them.”  OK, I said that.  I am a wise man.  Here’s what I was trying to say – this sketch is meant to provide inspiration.  While the “rules” say my project should be inspired by the sketch, nothing says it has to have triangles or that the three shapes should be pointing to the right.  As such, I replaced the triangles with cake pieces and flipped the sketch.  Do you see it?  Do you see how I honored the sketch with sticking to it 100%?
  • Your Perfect Day.  What a beautiful stamp set from the upcoming Occasions Catalog!  The images are very modern and very clean, and the fonts are gorgeous.  Rather than pair them with the beautiful Designer Series Paper that’s included in this suite in the Occasions Catalog, I paired this set with the papers from All Abloom Designer Series Paper Stack (available currently in the Annual Catalog).  These tiny patterns are a perfect complement to this stamp set.
  • Color Combination.  I’m not a HUGE fan of Pistachio Pudding, one of Stampin’ Up!’s 2013-2015 In Colors.  I don’t dislike it – I just don’t find a lot of reasons to use it.  I was excited by the combination of this paper with the tiny white polka dots and the floral print, so I went with it.  I added Basic Gray and Whisper White to balance out all the green.  If you like this combination, too, please feel free to save this:Color Inspiration, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

  8. Merry Christmas Brian! What a lovely card… I’m with you, on its own, Pistachio Pudding is kind of blah but wow, it rocks on this card. I LOVE the new DSP, it’s at the top of my wish list from the new catty. I love how you “thought outside the triangle” and used the cake instead. Genius!

  9. Love the use of the All Abloom paper. I bought that but had not used it yet. Thanks for the sketch instruction. I will start doing them to embrace my creativity! How’s that for turning my thoughts positive!

Did you get my emails from the past two days. There is a present for you from me in there!
    So excited

  17. Just bouncin’ around inside those guard rails, aren’t you Brian!! Love that quote!! And, great interpretation of the sketch! Hope you are having a great Christmas/New Year’s week and getting in some relaxation.

  18. I love, love, love everything about this card. As soon as I saw it, the color combo, the DSP and the little birds on top of the cake make it very special. Your creativity is very inspiring. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Let’s all make a week of celebrating!

  19. So sweet and soft. Perfect wedding card Brian!

  20. Sweet & stylish! Happy New Year to you and your loved ones!

  21. Brian, I was going over this card again. How did you get the cake on te DSP? It doesn’t look cut out from black ink on whisper white. The 2 blue birds do look like they were stamped on blue and then layered. I am brain dead today and just don’t see it.
    Thanks

    • Hi Nancy, You were right – I stamped the cake on the Designer Series Paper. I also stamped the cake on Whisper White. I then cut the white cake out and glued it on top of the DSP image. It looks smooth because the paper is super-thin and the gray lines mesh well to hide the snipping. 🙂
