Amazing You for PPA240

Super-clean.  Super-simple.  That’s how I’d describe the bright and cheery card I’m sharing with you today.  This week’s Pals Paper Arts Challenge offers a great sketch, and I needed to make a Congratulations card, so “yippee!”  Here’s my card:

Be The Star, You're Wonderful, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA240And here’s Kerry Willard Bray’s sketch from this week’s PPA challenge:

PPA240Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Amazing You.  Let’s skip right past the beautiful array of stars and the lovely colors for now.  I want to talk about this sentiment.  Do you recognize it?  You already know I love sentiments, so you shouldn’t be surprised to know I pieced these together from a stamp set.  I’ll tell you.  I used You’re Wonderful, another photopolymer not-in-the-catalog set that was released last year.  If you missed it, you should definitely check it out – perfect for coloring with Blendabilities or an Aqua Painter, but the sentiments are so flexible.  Literally.  Because the word “amazing” was photopolymer, I could straighten it out a bit on the block to remove the curve that’s present in the set.  🙂
  • Color Combination.  There are so many ways to create fun and interesting color combinations (I shared a video about that here).  For this card, I pulled my color combination directly from Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper – and I couldn’t be happier with this combination of colors.  If you like them, too, feel free to save this:Color Inspiration, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Change it Up.  My starting point for this card was the dotted pattern of paper from Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper.  I knew I wanted to use these colors, and I knew I’d position those stars along this stripped of dotted paper (it’s the one that’s on the bottom of the left-most piece in the picture below).  In the end, though, the pattern on the paper was just too busy for me to sit back and smile.  I cropped a piece of Daffodil Delight cardstock (I was getting warmer).  When I remember the Painted Blooms had a piece of all-Daffodil paper, I knew I’d use that.  So happy with the change.Painted Blooms, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Stamp Sets:  You’re Wonderful, Be the Star  Papers:  Blackberry Bliss, Rose Red, Wild Wasabi, Whisper White, Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper  Inks:  Blackberry Bliss  Accessories:  White Stampin’ Emboss Powder,  Stars Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to the PPA site to see the cards by this week’s design team members and to play along with this week’s sketch.

Thanks for stopping by today!

  1. I want this set. 🙁

  2. I love the way you’ve pulled together all those different things (colors from DSP, multiple stamp sets,…) to make something totally new. Genius!

  3. Amazing you Brian! Eye catching card!

  4. Love it, Brian!!! It’s got that WOW factor you’re so good at achieving. Have a great Saturday, my friend.

  5. Awesome take on the sketch and great color combo!

  6. Brian, you made and shared this card just in time, I need a card for my niece who is performing in a school play next weekend and this fabulous layout with the stars is perfect for this sweet girl. I might just add a bit of GLITTER to the stars, she loves bling.
    Thank you for sharing. 🙂

  7. My kind of card Brian – CAS! Love the color combo and, of course, the stars. By using the colored card stock with white emboss powder you don’t end up with that little bit of white around the edge to fill in when you run the die through the cutting machine. Don’t know why I didn’t think of that!

  8. I really like how yu used stars on your card. As a former teacher I know how big a smile a star can bring. All around awesome job.

  9. Hi Brian, do you have a system in how you keep track of what sentiments you own? You have such a gift for pulling greetings from stamp sets and using them with a completely different stamp set. How do you remember what words you have and where they are?

    • Julie, I don’t have a system for organizing them. I tend to stand in front of my stamps and eyeball them over and over until I find what I want. I stamp (almost) daily so I am familiar, for the most part, with what sentiments are in the sets I own.

  10. Thank you for sharing your design thought process with each card. I get stuck periodically and have to nudge myself into thinking of options before landing on just the right combination, as you did.

  11. Always the star of the show, I love the color combination it seems bright enough to bring on Spring.

  12. Definitely a winning combination of colors. And the daffodil paper is wonderful with the stars…. love the variation of color in that particular DSP! Great job, Brian. Thanks for playing along with us this week!!

  13. You played these colors beautifully with this sketch! Thanks for playing this week, Brian!

  14. Love your CAS stars, great card! Thanks for having fun with the PALS this week!
