Here for You for The Paper Players

Sandy Mathis created a super-fun sketch for this week’s Paper Players challenge.  A circle with an object and a banner with a sentiment.  Boy, there are so many avenues for this sketch.  I chose to make a soft and sweet card and to feature the image along-side the circle.   Here’s my card:

Love is Kindness, And Many More, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PP233 And here’s Sandy’s sketch that inspired my card:

I just love these tulips.  I colored a bunch of them in Pink Pirouette with Stampin’ Blendabilities back in December and shared a Blendabilities video.  If you’d like to see that project and video, please click here.

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Snipping Tips.  Let’s see – how can I get the beautiful bouquet of tulips to be my featured image along side the circle…hmmmm…I guess I’ll have to snip them out.  That’s a lot of snipping, but (as you know) I enjoy it.  When working with thin images with deep cuts (like the stems on these tulips), you have to plan ahead.  When you pick the side of the image you are going to cut first, choose the one with the most difficult turns and twists so that you have a solid piece on the other side.  You really have to study the image to set your plan of attack.Snipping Tips, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Clean Circle and Border of Dots.  My initial thought was to just add a panel of polka dots in the clean circle in the middle of the page.  When I pulled out the paper, though, I realized I was really close to having a perfect band of dots around the So Saffron base.  I snipped a little into each side of the So Saffron to achieve the perfect size to border my front entirely with dots (and have the soft dots inside the circle, as well).
  • Balanced Banner.  I always stamp my banners a little bit longer than necessary because they are so easy to trim down as needed (but not nearly as easy to lengthen).  When I placed this banner down on my cardfront, I was happy that it was long because I really wanted it to “grab on” to the side of the panel.  That decision pushes the limits of the sketch a bit, but I’m OK with that – I needed that additional length to balance it all out.

Stamp Sets:  Love is Kindness, And Many More  Papers:  Soft Sky, So Saffron, Whisper White, Subtles Background Designer Series Paper Stack (Soft Sky)  Inks:  Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, Stampin’ Blendabilities (Soft Sky, Wild Wasabi)  Accessories:  Circles Collection Framelits, Hexagon Punch (for banner tips), Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to see the cards by the Paper Players design team members and to play along with this week’s sketch.

  22. Hi Brian
Wow, this card just melted my heart. I have everything but the tulip stamp. I am going to get it and case for my ailing daughter. Then, I will use this in a May advanced class with the tag line April showers bring May flowers. That will give me enough time to conquer fussy cutting with your great instructions and video. I think I will show your video in class to get my prior demonstrators back on board so they can experience how great it is to have such an awesome up line. Plus, so many of my stamping friends poo poo fussy cutting. I am going to become an expert like you and convert them! Wish me luck! I know I can, I know I can. Yes, I was a cheerleader in my younger years.
