Class of 2015 for PPA242

The selection of colors for this week’s Pals Paper Arts Challenge is just that – a challenge.  As we get closer to Spring (that’s right, I said we are getting closer to Spring), it feels natural to create projects with florals and bright colors.  Garden Green, Gold and Basic Black don’t fit into that color scheme, so…I reached for my Class of 2015 stamp, a single stamp offered in this year’s Occasions Catalog.  Here’s my card:

And here’s the challenge banner for this week’s color challenge:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Gold and Black.  This sentiment is PERFECT for a gold-and-black combination.  I stamped the image with Tuxedo Black Memento ink on Whisper White.  I stamped it again on Basic Black with Versamark, sprinkling it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  I snipped the banner and glued it right on top of the stamped image.
  • Garden Green Grid.  Do you recognize the green grid of Designer Series Paper in the background?  It’s from Flowerpot Designer Series Paper.  The grids in that paper run vertical and horizontal (even squares).  My OCD for balance wasn’t happy with how all the little squares were lining up, so I decided to cut the paper at an angle.  The imbalanced squares made it easier to cut a piece at any size.  🙂
  • Tossing the Cap.  The stamped image includes the words “Class of 2015” with a single graduation cap centered on top.  I started with a long, slender cardfront, so I decided to extend the image of the cap across the rest of the card.  I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig and masking to stamp the cap in multiple spots.  If you’d like to see my video for using the Stamp-a-ma-jig, click here.  If you’d like to see my video on masking, click here.

Stamp Sets:  Class of 2015  Papers:  Basic Black, Whisper White, Gold Foil Sheets, Flowerpot Designer Series Paper  Inks:  Tuxedo Black Memento, Versamark  Accessories:  Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Stampin’ Dimensionals

  1. I like your take on the colors in this challenge and how you are so clever to stamp the cap several times across the page. Nice job! I think you may be on to something…that spring is coming. After 9″ of new snow on Thursday, we are ready for it and soon!!

  2. Very fun card….I have LOTS of graduations this year too!!!
    Happy Sunday!

  3. Looks like a great card to slip a check or some cash into. After all, that is usually what a new graduate needs the most! LOL I agree with Linda – those caps look tossed which is pretty traditional at graduations. I too have several graduations to attend this year and didn’t think about it until I saw your card…………..graduations start a little over two months from now and with Easter, birthdays, anniversaries, St. Patty’s Day and a new baby coming to our family, I had better get busy and get some graduation cards made along with the others. Thanks for the reminder Brian. Big hugs to you from Maine!

  4. Great card ! Love love the tossed cap ! You could sell these cute cards big time !!!

  5. What a fun and happy card! Your OCD need for balance had a benefit here….the grid paper at an angle echoes that “tossed cap” nicely and just enhances the concept visually. Perfect flow!

  6. I love the caps flying over the words, super cool card Brian. This little cap maybe could be cut off the main stamp just to avoid having to mask the words each time you want to stamp it.
The shape of your card is perfect to stash some money or a check for the graduate, very clever. Thank you for sharing.

  7. Fun card. I love the flying caps! A real smile maker.

  8. What a fabulous card. Love the angled grids, color combo and of course–the tossed caps that fly across the width of the card!

  9. An amazing card, Brian! You really are so very clever!! Thanks for joining us this week at PPA. Now, I am off to pin this for a future CASE!!

  10. Perfect graduation card…those tossed hats make it! Thanks for playing along this week at the PPA!

  11. Awesome as usual!

  12. Love that you stepped outta the box (of the A2 card) and made it slender. So cute to have the cap flying across the top too! We are so lucky to have you at PPA.

  13. Super card…all it needs is for you to write a check to pay the tuition to the lucky person you are giving this card to! You always make me smile!
