Yippee! It’s a Boy!

I’m headed to a baby shower today, so I needed to whip up a super-sweet card for the happy couple.  Lucky for me, I’ve pulled inspiration from two sketch challenges to make the card.  That’s right, I combined two sketch challenges.  It’s easy to combine a sketch challenge with a color challenge, but the sketches for this week’s Pals Paper Arts challenge and Freshly Made Sketches challenge are so similar that I made one card that honors both.  Yippee!

Here’s my card:

Happy Easter Bunny, A Dozen Thoughts, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA244, FMS178

And here are the challenge banners for both challenges that inspired my card (one is essentially the flipped version of the other:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Funny Bunny.  Everything about this super-cute bunny screams “happy”!  The image is from Happy Easter Bunny, a single stamp offered in the Occasions Catalog.  While I’m not a huge fan of the stamped image (in its entirety), I love the bunny cropped out from the rest of the image.  I purchased the bunny to do just that, but many others beat me to the punch with really great projects – he’s dancing, he’s juggling – my bunny is jumping for joy because they’re having a boy.  What a great way to extend the life of this image outside of Easter!Happy Easter Bunny
  • Flip it Upside Down.  There are rules around sketches – and one of the rules is “there aren’t many rules.”  For the PPA sketch, I simply flipped it upside down to change the perspective a bit – the bunny is at the bottom of the card – which makes more sense because his exclamation is above him.  It’s OK to change the perspective of a sketch – the drawing is there to inspire you.  To further alter my creation from the exact sketches, I designed my top layer according to the layouts, rather than incorporating it over the entire card.
  • Sweet Color Combination.  I’ve really fallen in love with Lost Lagoon – I’ve used it a lot lately and have several more projects to share that feature this dusty blue.  Pulling inspiration from Sweet Dreams Designer Series Paper, I paired Lost Lagoon with Sahara Sand and Whisper White to complete my project.  While Lost Lagoon might seem to rich for a baby card (it’s muted a bit in the paper), the Sahara Sand and Whisper White really help to soften it.  If you like this color combination, too, please feel free to save this:Color Inspiration, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

  19. The bunny looks like he is doing what my friends and I call “the happy dance”. LOL If we win at the casino (even just a little bit) we require that the winner get up and do the happy dance! I must say I didn’t care for this stamp as I thought it way too busy but by cropping out everything except the bunny, it’s a super little stamp. Great job as always Brian.

  20. Brian, that card is just adorable! I have a girlfriend that is pregnant with a boy so this card will be perfect for her! Thank you so much for all the inspiration you give me! Have a great weekend!

  21. Great card…love that little bunny. It’s awesome that an Easter stamp can do double duty for a baby card, perfect!
