Smile for a Quick Snapshot

I spent some time this week reminiscing about some old favorites of mine – Flashback Designer Series Paper pairs perfectly with Snapshot, a single stamp in the Annual Catalog (even if you aren’t using the paper pattern with the cameras on it).  Here’s a fun card I made when I paired these two oldies with So You, a goodie from the Occasions Catalog:

Snapshot, So You, Flashback Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Black Inks.  This card features images stamped with two different black inks.  I love the option of both for very different reasons.  The camera is stamped with Jet Black StazOn Ink (the best way to get a crisp, clean image on a piece of colored cardstock), while the sentiment is stamped with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink (while it was originally introduced to work with Blendabilities, this ink still leaves a very crisp and rich image and is also perfect for photopolymer stamps).  In the end, you really can’t tell the difference.
  • A Lot of Work.  A simple card can sometimes consume more time and energy than you’d ever plan – I’m sure you can relate.  I knew what I wanted, but it took several iterations and changes before I landed on the project I was happy with.  Several cameras were stamped and cropped, and many pieces of paper were trimmed and cut before I got where it where I wanted it.  Here’s a quick shot of the “aftermath” of this card on the day I made it:Snapshot, So You, Flashback Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Color Combination.  This color combination might not be completely obvious from a quick glance at this card, but there are three colors that are taking a front seat in this card:  Basic Black, Pool Party and Very Vanilla.Color Inspiration, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

There’s more!  I liked this card so much that I created a video to share more about it.  I’ll be sharing that video tomorrow.  Please come back.  🙂

Thanks for stopping by today!

  1. Another great card Brian. I have to say it is nice to see others go through the whole restamping, redoing, rethinking of the cards. 🙂

  2. Suzie Patt Cullen

Oh yes, that is a familiar site on my stamping desk as well. 🙂 I am eager to see the video tomorrow! Have a great day, Brian!

  3. I am smiling at this card and the aftermath. I believe I still have aftermath only craft desk from my last project LOL! I love the pairing of the camera and the greeting.

    • Thanks, Kelly. My aftermaths stick around for a while. If you look closely, you’ll see the aftermaths of a couple of other projects I haven’t shared yet. 🙂

  4. Now THAT is what I call a “craftermath”!!!! Love it! Great card too….it was well worth the tinkering. 🙂

  5. Love the card, love the desk! And those two other little cameras that you cut out are so cute. I never have the heart to pitch little gems like that so I keep them, and keep them, and keep them. Sometimes I actually use ’em! Thanks for the peek at your thought process!

  6. What would be a great invention is a CrafterMather CleanerUpper! Love the card…B

  7. I think Billie has come up with the “invention” that SU needs to produce !
This is a cute card and it makes me smile !

  8. I’m with Billie and Sonny on this one. The card is great and I can’t wait to see the video. Sometimes I think I spend more time cleaning up the mess I’ve made than I did making the card! LOL

  9. Oh, man! What a timely post this was, Brian. I was up until midnight last night performing my own iterations. Does one “perform” iterations? My beginner stamp camp is this coming Saturday and it is a LOT of work to get ready. I try to keep in mind my class’s abilities and how I can translate a design using only SU stamps and papers. My dining room table looks just like your craft table (oh, such comfort), but my condo is on the market and I can’t let it go too long. About that time my realtor calls with a showing request. But, if I didn’t really love it, I wouldn’t be up that late perfecting my samples and watching reruns of Mash.

  10. Awwwww, it made me smile BRIAN, love it friend , your work table looks like mine when I make A card , lol!! But that’s a look of a great crafters!! Love it
    Hugs Frenchie ,

  12. This is a perfect card! I keep staring at is and analyzing how well every aspect works so perfectly. It was no accident as shown by tour workspace. You are a true artist Brian King!

  13. Really like it all! planning, artist’s card and the craftermath! : ) Happy to see it, Brian!

  14. Love this card might have to the camera stamp just to remind my kids that once upon a time people took pictures with things other than their cell phones!!

  15. Funnily enough I had a craftermath moment yesterday – unfortunately it was witnessed by my husband and his grandson… who proclaimed “All the mess for just one card?…”
    errrrrr yes 🙂

  16. Love the card Brian! Remember “Creative is messy!” Your craftermath just shows how creative you are! Now if I could just find my crafting table! 🙂

  17. Great card Brian. Thank you for a great tip and video

  18. Brian, thank you most of all for sharing your aftermath photo. I thought I was the ONLY ONE who made big messes like that!! ROTFLOL! =)

  19. I often wonder what others desks look like after making just one card. So glad I am not alone in having a messy desk!

  20. Cute card, Brian. I love the camera and big Smile and the two DSPs you used. Your craftermath reminded me of a small sign I have in my craft room that says “A clean craft room is the sign of creativity block” and none of us want that, right? I have a friend who says it would be cheaper to buy the cards I send, but I know it definitely would not be as much fun. Have a great weekend.
