Celebrate Today for FMS179

This week’s Freshly Made Sketches offers a perfect layout for a large, focal-point image or sentiment.  I knew I wanted to use my much-beloved, but oh-so-neglected, Celebrate Today stamp set and coordinating Balloon Framelit Dies with this sketch.  Here’s my card:

Celebrate Today, @SoSocial, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FMS179

And here’s the challenge banner that inspired my creation:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Working with Patterns.  My original card design incorporated the GORGEOUS Night of Navy patterned paper from Birthday Bash Specialty Designer Series Paper – you know, the one that looks like solid paisley whisps?  Anyway, the card was not working.  I arranged my banner and balloon differently.  I increased and decreased the size of the panel on the right-hand side.  Nothing worked.  That’s when I realized the pattern in that paper was too busy (although I love it) to play a role on this card.  The smaller pattern of polka-dots works so much better here and doesn’t take away from the balloon and banner.
  • Balancing the Blues.  Not only did the pattern need to change on the background of the card from the paisley print, but Night of Navy didn’t need to be so “front-and-center”on this card.  As the card took form, Night of Navy quickly became my “border color,” so I decided to use Island Indigo (my other blue) in the background of this card.
  • A Regal Celebration.  Crushed Curry offsets these gorgeous blues perfectly – and this color combination is perfect for a fun and beautiful card that’s perfect for the man in your life.  If you like this combination, too, feel free to save this: Color Inspiration, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
