You’ve Got This, MOJO400!

Before I share today’s project, I want to offer a big shout out to the Mojo Monday Card Sketch Challenge, who turns 400 today.  Mojo, you don’t look a day over 35.  🙂  This challenge rounds up more participants than any other – how incredible that it still has so much momentum!

As part of Mojo MOnday’s 400th challenge, the team is holding a designer search contest.  I won’t lie – I would LOVE to be a part of this talented group.  I would LOVE the opportunity to create and inspire with my clean and simple spin on these weekly Mojo sketches.  I’ll be honest – I’ve not participated every week because I prepare most of my week’s projects on Saturday and Sunday (Mojo sketches aren’t revealed until Monday), but if I can work on the sketches ahead of time as a member of the team, I’d be able to participate every week.

My MOJO400 card uses two new items from the 2015-2016 Annual Catalog that I LOVE – the gorgeous flower from the You’ve Got This stamp set and a page from the Neutrals Color Collection Designer Series Papers.  Here’s my card:You've Got This, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, MOJO400

And here’s Julee Tilman’s MOJO400 challenge sketch that inspired my project:

MOJO400Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Flower Focus.  The focal point of the super-clean card is the gorgeous flower from You’ve Got This.  With all the words in the background, your eye rests calmly on the flower before beginning to read through the words in white.  I stamped the flower on a piece of Hello Honey card stock and then carefully snipped it out.  Not much else to do to make this beautiful flower pop.
  • No focal sentiment.  I just love the patterns in the printed pages of the new Color Collection Designer Series Papers (formerly referred to as Background Papers).  This page has beautiful words of encouragement and kindness scripted across the back – and I love that.  It’s a rare thing for me, but I chose to not have a focal point sentiment on my card – the background is already filled with so many great words.  Why not let the recipient of this card choose the word that best represents them?  🙂  I scanned the list carefully – not an odd one in the bunch.  I created this card Monday night – before I knew that the Neutrals Color Collection Designer Series Paper would be unavailable for a short time while Stampin’ Up! addresses some quality concerns with the papers.  When they are “back up”, you’ll want to order the immediately – trust me.
  • Color Combination.  A couple of years ago, I created a card with Summer Starfruit and Basic Black.  That yellow-and-black combination has always stuck with me.  I thought Hello Honey would give a similar feel, and I was right!  If you, also, like this combination of colors, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! I hope you’ll pop over to MOJO Monday to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.  And please cross your fingers that Julee Tilman (or the panel of deciding artists) see it fit to add me to their amazing team!

Thanks for stopping by today!

  9. Beautiful card Brian. I absolutely adore the color combination and that DSP is the cherry on top. I’ll definitely be getting that as soon as possible. Another thing I like about this card is how much fun I know you had snipping out that flower.

  10. Hi Brian:

The Mojo Monday design team would be oh so lucky to have you as one of the designers. I don’t know how you could fit that into all you do every minute but I’m sure you would find a way. As exemplified by your card today, you really know how to make cards shine. The proof is in the details like your use of the corner rounder in the upper right corner. Just tell them I vote for you. LOL

  11. Love it! The flower placement reminds me of a water lily, the way it’s floating at the bottom edge of the center panel.

  12. A beautiful card Brian, I too love this colour combination, thanks for sharing, I gunning for you to be on the DT team!! Good luck 🙂

  14. Great combination, Brian! Such a pretty card and the paper with sentiments/words is great! Anxious to see your top 10+.

  15. Great card today, Brian. Nice variation on the circle at the bottom. I was surprised when I saw the colors in your color inspiration box. On my tablet the black looks like navy, so as much as I like your combination I think I might try navy with the yellow and white. Thanks for being an inspiration. (I hope the Mojo team picks you as a design team member. I know you would be a great addition to their team.)

  16. Oh my, I would be smiling bright if this card showed up in my mail box. Great job Brian!

  18. GORGEOUS!!! You are so right, as always. Having that background paper be the sentiment, is perfect! The flower is gorgeous. And, where can WE vote to have a say so on you being on the DT! What a thrill that would be for US! Hugs!
