Let’s Get Away and Go Wild

This week’s Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge gave me a perfect reason to make a card I already wanted to make.  I moved some of the items around a bit and played with the scales, but here’s my card:Let's Get Away, Go Wild Designer Series Paper Stack, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA256

And here’s the challenge banner that inspired my project:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Playing with Patterns.  I’m a studier.  The minute I get my hands on a new pack of Designer Series Papers, I study the pages, admiring each one for their uniqueness.  I immediately start thinking about how I’ll use the patterns and papers.  What’s different?  What’s similar?  During my first pass through Go Wild Designer Series Paper Stack, I immediately noticed a print that’s exactly the same (except that one pattern is Black, while the other is Tip Top Taupe).  I knew I’d line these patterns up at some point!  I simply cut three 1-1/8″ strips from the right side of each paper.  The pieces just lined up perfectly.Go Wild Designer Series Paper Stack, Stampin' Up!
  • Let’s Get Away.  This Project Life stamp set originally debuted in the 2015 Occasions Catalog.  While it’s perfect for documenting a great vacation trip in Project Life or a traditional scrapbook, it’s also versatile enough for greeting cards.  I love this “explore” sentiment with the wild patterns, but there are lots more in the set that shouldn’t be missed.  Cute card, cute camper, lots of great arrows and images.Let's Get Away, Stampin' Up!
  • Easy banner tips.  While the 1-1/8″ banner width isn’t one of the three standard widths to fit easily in the Banner Triple Punch (you watched Mom’s video on Sunday, right?), it’s easy enough to center the strip in the punch.  Flip the punch over to see that the banner is perfectly centered – and punch away!  Yippee!

Stamp Sets:  Let’s Get Away  Papers:  Go Wild Designer Series Paper Stack, Basic Black, Tip Top Taupe, Whisper White  Inks:  Tuxedo Black Memento  Accessories:  1-1/2″ Circle punch, 1-3/4″ Circle punch, 2″ Circle punch, Banner Tripe punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to The Pals Paper Arts Challenge see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

  1. That’s one of my favorite stamp sayings. Great card!

  2. Love the way you turned the sketch, Brian. The colors and DSP are very striking together!

  3. Ooooo, what a wild card Brian, love wild !!!!
    Lol, Tfs,
    Hugs Frenchie,

  4. This is my new Brian King favorite! What beautiful paper! Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

  5. I swear Brian – you can make an amazing card out of anything. What even made you think about matching those prints? Honestly, do you do math in your dreams or what! LOL Fabulous card and I would never, ever have thought to cut the strips and match them up much less figured that cutting them 1-1/8″ wide would make the perfect fit. You are truly gifted!

  6. Gorgeous card- I was not a fan of this paper until I saw this card. You’ve inspired me! Thanks Brian.

  7. A great simple but Wow! Design!!! It is great to be back, thank you again!

  8. I guess the teacher in you never retires, my first thought was “That’s a great graduation theme”. This would make a great graduation card and conversely a great retirement card. The possibilities are endless. I think this DSP could make me actually like animal print, lol. I know it’s making me like Tip Top Taupe a bit more. Great card Brian

  9. I knew I liked the paper, however; I jumped right over this stamp set. Thanks so much for putting it on my radar, even more my wishlist!
    Reeeeeaaaaallly like this card.

  10. Very handsome card today, Brian. I love these papers and am awed at the matching detail you went to. Love the whimsical tie-in with the sentiment and paper. Suttle, but very clever!

  11. Really well balanced card Brian. I like that you have the strip overhanging each side. So effective. The sentiment is perfect with the safari feel of the card and the “go be wild you animal” print. Excellent interpretation of the sketch. I’m going to play along with the pals challenge this week. You have inspired me.

  12. Great card!

  13. Great card! Awesome paper and design…love it!!!

  14. Such an obvious pairing, a match made in heaven. Love your work, Brian.

  15. Brian what a great use of that DSP. I really liked the way you matched up those patterns. Spot on! Great job 🙂
