Thanks to You for PPA259

With this week’s Color Challenge for the Pals Paper Arts (Pacific Point, Real Red and Silver), it would be really easy to go “patriotic.”  You know I like a challenge, so I went in a different direction.  It’s not that I’m unpatriotic (that’s certainly not the case), but I decidedly stayed clear of flags and stars to see if I could have fun with these colors while also staying clear of the just-past July 4 holiday.  Here’s my card:

Happy Notes, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA259

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:PPA259Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Horizontal Stripes.  These horizontal stripes aren’t found in any Designer Series Paper.  I wanted horizontal, so I cut into the diagonally-striped Pacific Point paper from the Brights Designer Series Paper Stack.  I love the band I created to showcase this super-fun sentiment.
  • White Embossing.  The sentiment from Happy Notes is a negative space image – the rubber from the stamp picks up ink on the entirety of the image EXCEPT for the words – the words are carved deeper into the rubber surface.  I stamped this image with VersaMark on Real Red Paper and covered it with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  The red words result – yippee! – and a thin red border pops out when it’s cropped with the Lots of Labels Framelits.  I repeated a thin, red border around the front panel to mimic this red border around the sentiment.

  • A Shiny Base.  I love when a card challenge prompts me to do something I would have never done on my own.  The addition of the silver foil prompted me to make a fun border around the sentiment with the foil and the Lots of Labels Framelit Dies.  I created a base border of silver foil between the base of the card and the front panel.  The silver foil doesn’t “do” a lot, but it sure adds to the overall appeal of the card.

Stamp Sets:  Happy Notes  Papers:  Pacific Point, Real Red, Silver Foil, Brights Color Collection Designer Series Paper Stack (Pacific Point)  Accessories:  Lots of Labels Framelit Dies, White Stampin’ Emboss Power, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to The Pals Paper Arts challenge site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

Thanks for stopping by today!
