Hope You’re Feeling Special…

When a friend needed a quick card for a bridal shower, I asked her what kind of card she wanted.  She flipped through the Annual Catalog and pointed right at the card at the top of page 105 – a card that beautifully showcases Six-Sided Sampler.  Since I had all the supplies to make it, I decided to CASE the card from the catalog.  With a change of the colors, a switch-up of the sentiment, a brand new background and an alternation of shape and size, I created this card for my friend to give to her friend:

Six-Sided Sampler, You've Got This, Garden in Bloom, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, CASE from 2015-2016 Annual CatalogHere’s the card that inspired by project:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • CASEing.  CASE = Copy and Share Everything.  As you can tell by looking at the two samples, there are definitely similarities in the two cards, but I’ve changed it up enough by putting my own spin on the beautiful layout and design by the Stampin’ Up! concept artist who created this beauty for the Annual Catalog.  I’m sharing a video tomorrow that talks a bit more about what it means to CASE a card from another creator.
  • You’ve Got This Background.  While the original artist used Gorgeous Grunge to create a beautiful texture behind the hexagons, I was excited to used the beautiful, thatched background found in You’ve Got This.  I inked up the stamp with Crumb Cake and stamped it off twice to give a soft background texture.  There’s nothing overpowering about the look that’s created with this stamp.

  • Color Combination.  I really like the soft colors used in the original card – it appears to be Pool Party, Basic Gray and Crumb Cake.  For my friend’s card, I went with three colors that are all a bit dusty: Crumb Cake, Lost Lagoon and Blushing Bride.  They pair well together, playing off of one another in a very delicate way.  If you like this combination of colors, too, please feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! Beautiful color combination and a lovely card.

  13. Your CASE card is nicely enhanced, Layering always adds a pop! Two things, I would love to see the inside and did you make the envelope?

    • Hey Katrina, Thanks! The inside of the card was a square of Whisper White with a thin border of Blushing Bride (same size as the front panels). My friend didn’t want a sentiment inside and asked that I leave it blank – that’s what I typically do, anyway. 🙂 I made the envelope with the Naturals Envelope Paper (Crumb Cake) and added a Lost Lagoon butterfly (like the one on the front of the card) in the lower, left corner.

  14. Hi Brian:

What a perfect sentiment for a bride to be. I usually like bright and vivid but the softness of this card is so sweet and makes me think of a young bride with that special look of “so in love”. This card couldn’t be more perfect! You did an amazing job.
