You’re Invited in Black, White and Gold

It’s a rare occasion that I make a lot of one card at a time.  I’m not built that way – but when I do make a whole bunch of one card, I often times enjoy it.  Over my July 4 weekend, I was able to complete a large stack of Anniversary party announcements for a friend’s parents, who are soon to be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.  Using lots of Basic Black, Whisper White and Gold Foil Sheets, I made this card:

Everything Eleanor, Anniversary Invitations, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Everything Eleanor.  This invitation features two stamp sets – one is long-retired (Sincere Salutations) and one that is still current (Everything Eleanor).  The combination of the two is purely magic.  While I heat embossed the sentiment on Basic Black paper with White Stampin’ Emboss powder, I stamped the gorgeous swirl (I find it stunning every time I stamp with it) with Jet Black StazOn.  I used the Stamp-a-Ma-Jig to line up each swirl straight up-and-down to better fill the panel of white.

  • Careful Calculating and Creative Cutting.  Once I designed this card with scraps of Gold Foil I had at home, I knew I’d have one chance to order just the right amount of Gold Foil to get the job done.  I calculated each piece carefully to determine the right amount of foil to order.  I even counted the pieces on the inside (the inside includes a layer of foil and a layer of Whisper White with the printed invitation).  I knew exactly how many pieces I’d need (I’m so smart that way) and then added two additional packs just in case.  🙂  When cutting for a project like this, you can sometimes creatively cut the paper to get the most out of it – play around with scrap paper to find the best ways to maximize a sheet of paper.  It can be a fun math equation – and who doesn’t love math?
  • Soft Edges.  This card is jam-packed with lots of corners and hard edges.  The beautiful swirl (again, in makes me weak every time) and the flowing sentiment are not hard at all, so I found that mounting the sentiment on a round-edged oval gave me just the soft edges I needed to make sure the focal points on the card were soft and beautiful.

What “I made a bunch of the same card” post would be complete without the much-needed Infinity Shot of many of the cards lined up together?  It’s the best way to celebrate the end of a lot of work:

  1. really classy! Love it 🙂

  2. WOWZERS! You’re amazing. These are stunning. xx

  3. Great card, very classy.
So now what are you going to do with all the silver foil paper you have?

    • Marthea – I had to read through my post a couple of times to figure out what you were asking. The foil comes in either Gold or Silver – not both. The picture would indicate both, but the description is Gold. I only ordered Gold Foil. Is that what you were asking? 🙂

  4. Beautiful cards and quite the labor of love!

  5. Gorgeous! What a beautiful invitation!

  6. OMGosh–absolutely stunning and classy!
Your friend’s parents will be oh, so happy.

  7. So lovely and elegant! This is one of your best designs! I understand the work in making multiples of the same card. One year it was 300 prom invitations for me. LOL!

  8. These invites are so sophisticated and beautiful. You’re so creative. Thanks for your shares.

  9. Very nice!! Everything Eleanor is a friends favorite stamp set…… Now I see why!

Oh so elegant, Brian! The foil paper really adds that special pop. And Everything Eleanor was the perfect backdrop.

  11. I love this card Brian. I also feel the same way about everything Eleanor swirl. The sentiment stamp must before my time in SU and I’m so sorry I missed it. As you have said before, I also love a mix of script and type in a sentiment.

    Just beautiful.

  12. These are stunning, Brian! I hope you cut those smaller sheets of paper out of the larger sheets so you could save on paper! So easy to do! Hugs!

    • Sharon, I know I could have saved some paper, but I didn’t want the centers to sag at all and didn’t want to spend the time to carve out that piece from each – I’d still be cutting away. 🙂

  13. Wow! That is one elegant card. The Everything Eleanor swirl was perfect. By the way, how accurate were you gold foil paper calculations? I DO like math.

    • Dianne, Thanks. I was pretty spot on with the calculations – although a saved a sheet or two by cutting differently. I always calculate exactly what I need and then add in a “cushion” for mistakes. 🙂

  14. Shirley Stachowiak

Can I ask how many you made? And what you charged for such a beautiful invitation? I always struggle with that part!
    Gorgeous card!

    • Shirley, I made 50. You have to calculate in your time and supplies if making for a custom order. My suggestion – make three or four mockups to share with the customer. “This is a $2 card, this is a $4 card, this is a $6 card” is a great way to show how intricate or simple they can be depending on how many they want.

  15. Very classy card. Love it!

  16. Oh my, Brian, you are amazing. This is a beautiful card with all the perfect elements. I get bored after making six or so of the same card. You must have been in “robot” mode to make this many. Of course, it is for a special friend for a special occasion and you are a stamping expert according to your latest video!! Thanks for sharing.

  17. This card is gorgeous. That is one lucky couple! (And I, too, still have Sincere Salutations at my fingertips….)

  18. Truly a work of ART, from your heart! A+ professional!!!

  19. Love that you love Math! Gorgeous card too!

  20. Lovely card!!! So perfect as all of your creations are I have really been enjoying everyone’s comments today

  21. Absolutely stunning!!!

  22. That is absolutely gorgeous. It truly says it all. I can hear the oohs and ahhhs from each recipient! I too, calculate to get the most bang for my buck with paper / card stock sheets–don’t want to waste a quarter inch!

  23. Absolutely stunning! He/She (your friend) sure went to the right person!

  24. Fabulous! What a lovely invite, you totally rocked it!

  25. Brian! I cannot think of any words that truly describe the beauty of these invitations! Breathtaking? Elegant? Beauteous? Gorgeous? Nope, none of them will do to truly impart my thoughts of this card! Every single recipient of one of these invitations will truly be dazzled (nope dazzled doesn’t do it either LOL) when they receive it. I bet none of them will believe they were handmade. Since French is such a beautiful language I bet there is a French word that would do it.

Meanwhile – not to be obnoxious or anything but, I hate doing math and perhaps will send my math questions on to you! The strange part of that is that I am a quilter and using math every day. LOL

  26. Such an elegant & classic design, but somewhat bold also. They are so beautiful! You did a great job, Brian. I am sure your friend is eternally grateful.
Thank you for sharing with us. (I love the eternity shot, wink, wink)

  27. Absolutely stunning, Brian! So elegant and beautiful! I’m sure they are very please with the invitations!

  28. Brian, these are stunning. So rich and elegant!
LOL – my 11 year old doesn’t like math much, especially fractions, but I’m always showing her how it comes into play literally every time I measure and cut to make a card.

  29. Clean, sophisticated and elegant! Love it!

  30. Holy cow ! I looked at your blog early this morning and loved your cards ,but thought I would come back later to leave a comment . Since then there have been 33 entries !! I can see why ….these are so pretty and elegant and you did Everything Eleanor proud !

  31. WOW! Need I say more?

  32. Oh my goodness Brian, you did a stunning, superb job!!!!! The design is so elegant with the subtle touches of gold, how incredibly classy and beautiful.
Your friend indeed will be forever grateful for this lovely gift to the lovely couple celebrating a Golden Anniversary, how incredible is that!!
    Thank you for sharing.

  33. this screams “uber class” and “uber elegance” from none other than “uber Brian”.
