Three Things I Like: Julie DiMatteo

You know how much I like to share other people’s work, right?  Well, I’m excited to share a wonderful swap I received at Convention in July from team member Julie DiMatteo.  There’s so much to love about this simple card, but I’m going to share the top three things I love about her card.  Here’s Julie’s card:

One Big Meaning, Stampin' Up!, by Julie DiMatteo

Three Things I Like About Julie’s Project

  • Very Impressive!  You mostly see the images created with Textured Impressions Embossing Folders popping up from the card base.  For this card, though, Julie debossed the butterflies, using the opposite side.  Great choice!  Not only does that give her more surface to glue down her debossed piece to the card base, but I suspect the background might have pulled attention away from the adorable, double-stacked butterfly if she had constructed it with butterflies that pop out.

  • Pop Goes the Thanks.  I love the technique Julie used for creating a powerful and impressionable sentiment from One Big Meaning.  While I don’t know which color she stamped first, I know she stamped the sentiment once in Blackberry Bliss and once in Tip Top Taupe, offsetting the image slightly from the previously stamped one.  As such, the sentiment seems to jump right off the page.  This technique is SO EASY with photopolymers, but I’m guessing Julie gave her Stamp-a-ma-jig a workout making these swap cards.
  • A Tranquil Color Combination.  I love the tone-on-tone impact of gluing the debossed Tip Top Taupe piece directly to the Tip Top Taupe card base – no border needed there at all.  All three of these colors are so appealing together, creating a very soothing feel on this card.  If you like this combination, too, feel free to save this: Stampin' Up! 10. That’s one WOW of a card Julie! Brian, I bet you had a hard time limiting it to three things you love. My favorite, and I really had to look at the card for a while before I stopped changing my mind, is the shadowed lettering. At first I thought it was die cut twice but when you said it was stamped, especially since she had to make so many for a swap, I was uber impressed. Way to go Julie, I love it!
