Pretty Thankful for FMS198

Before I share my super-sweet project for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge, I want to thank Cindy Hall for selecting my Halloween window project as her pick in last week’s challenge.  What a wonderful group of projects in that challenge!  I’m always happy to be singled out.  If you missed that project, see it here.

This week’s sketch has so many possibilities.  I just love the offset pieces that are the stars of this sketch.  Once I decided to feature the Pretty Petals Designer Series Paper Stack, the entire project just fell into place.  Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Pretty Thankful.  One of the most understated stamp sets in the 2016 Annual Catalog is also one of the sweetest.  With a variety of sweet frames and sentiments, this set is a must-have.  I have used this set for personal cards and to add tags to the gifts I gave my team members who attended Convention, but I’ve never showcased it here.  Shame on me – because you need this adorable set.  I don’t want you to miss out.  🙂  Just look at all the combinations of sentiments you can create:

  • Straight, Tilted, Straight.  Before gluing down the askew panels on this card, I knew I wanted the darker piece of Pretty Petals to be the base of the two – it’s aligned straight up-and-down with the orientation of the card.  The sweet floral print is then tilted to match the layout from Freshly Made Sketches, but my sentiment (cropped with a Large Oval punch) is aligned straight up-and-down – no head-tilting necessary.  I also lined up the bottom edge of the Banner punch with the bottom edge of the black banner – a little symmetry never hurt anyone.Pretty Thankful, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FMS198
  • Color Combination.  Designer Series Papers are a wonderful source of inspiration.  The pages of the Pretty Petals Designer Series Paper Stack are filled to the brim with excellent color combinations.  I just love the contrast of this pale mint with the rich black.Stampin' Up! 12. Is there a trick to fitting the DSP to the envelope flap or do you just glue it down with some hanging over the edge and trim it off?

    • Hi Stephanie,
I glue down the flat side along the top of the envelope flap and then snip around the rounded edges. It’s surprisingly easy and fun. 🙂 I hope that helps.
