Thanksgiving Color Combinations

There are so many ways to find inspiration for color combinations – among other things, we can look to nature, fabrics or magazines.  We can also find combinations of colors in Designer Series Papers or samples in Stampin’ Up!’s catalogs.  Yippee!  Colors, colors everywhere.  A while back, I created a quick video to share tips for finding colors and forming color combinations – you can see it here.

As we roll into Fall, we are surrounded by inspirational colors – there are specific shades and hues that define each of the Fall and Winter holidays.  Last week, I shared some suggestions for building a classic combination of colors for Halloween – if you missed that post, you can see it here.

As soon as Halloween closes its door, Thanksgiving comes knocking.  Knock, knock, knock.  While there are certainly exceptions, Thanksgiving and Fall colors are traditionally defined by specific shades.  Since Stampin’ Up!’s color families give us so many varieties of these shades, I created a chart to show how they build up to an awesome arrangement of Fall colors.  Use this cart to find three or four shades you want to work with.  I suggest you pick one from three or four of the rows – and you’ll be on your way to a perfect Thanksgiving card:

Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Classic Thanksgiving Colors

Almost every card starts with a base of white or vanilla.  That can be your first selection or last – that choice will define whether you want soft (Very Vanilla) or crisp (Whisper White).  Either way, these rich and regal Fall colors will wonderfully complement your choice.  Browns and yellows are the most prevalent in Fall and Thanksgiving cards, but greens, oranges and purples are perfect accents, as well.  Choose the colors and then decide the balance of each in the design you create.

Feel free to save this chart or share it on Pinterest – I hope you find it helpful as you begin to make your Thankgiving projects.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Wonderful to see the colors side by side. Now if only I had a color printer. I will find one. This will become a very useful tool in my mind. Thanks for sharing this with us!

  7. Thanks so much for both charts! You are amazing!

  8. Great chart, Brian! I would add red shades to the list too (which would unbalance your perfectly balanced chart, but still). Here in Texas we get a lovely Cherry Cobbler color and occasionally a Real Red. That is, when the leaves don’t just fall off from heat exhaustion!!
