Blue Dove of Peace

When Blendabilities were discontinued earlier this year, I thought I might curl up and cry.  No more.  I’m a bit obsessed with my Stampin’ Write Markers these days.  Now that I have a Basic Black Archival Stampin’ Pad, it seems I can’t stay away from these little water-based wonders.  Whether I’m customizing Designer Series Paper or coloring beautiful images with my markers, these markers always seem to be in use down in the Fungeon.  Here’s my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge:

Dove of Peace, Reason for the Season, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FMS199

And here’s the banner for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Dove of Peace.  Confession time – the Dove of Peace stamp set did not make it to the first draft of wish list for the upcoming Holiday Catalog.  I was content with my list and ready to hit “send.”  That’s when I saw this card by Lydia Fiedler – I immediately knew my exclusion of the stamp would haunt me, so I immediately added it to my order.  How could I NOT want this gorgeous set?!  What’s not to love about this gorgeous in-flight bird?

  • A Simple Layout.  I love the simple layout shared by the Freshly Made Sketches team – the wide-open space allows for so many options – it can be filled with a bunch of tiny images or with one large, intricate image like my dove.  I honored the open, Whisper White space, only allowing a small sentiment from Reason for the Season to join the party.  The colors really pop against this smooth, white paper.

  • Blues.  I used quite a collection of blues and pale aquas to paint this beautiful bird.  I couldn’t use them all, so I skipped a couple of beautiful blues in the process.  Here’s a rundown of the blues I used (that kinda rhymes):  Soft Sky, Pool Party, Mint Macaron, Bermuda Bay, Island IndigoStampin' Up! Stamp Sets:  Dove of Peace, Reason for the Season  Papers:  Soft Sky, Island Indigo, Whisper White, Thick Whisper White  Inks:  Island Indigo, Basic Black Archival, Stampin’ Write Markers (Soft Sky, Pool Party, Mint Macaron, Bermuda Bay, Island Indigo)  Accessories:  Hexagon punch (for banner tip), Stampin’ DimensionalsDove of Peace, Reason for the Season, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FMS199

I hope you’ll pop over to Freshly Made Sketches to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

  13. Brian – this card is absolutely breathtaking! You did a magnificent job with the coloring. I admire your artistic ability. I don’t enjoy coloring so that makes my admiration for your abilities even more pronounced. Of course the fact that blue is my favorite color didn’t influence my opinion at all! LOL

  16. all I said was “WOW” when I got to your card. the layering & colors are perfect. 18. Oh Brian – what a wow! I resisted this set too on my first order, as much as I loved it – you are going to make me cave with this card though!! I am still lamenting the loss of my beloved Blendabilities – I think I too need to embrace my Stampin’ Write markers once more. Fab card – I love it!

  19. I’m glad Dove of Peace made it to your order – because your beautiful, softly colored dove just put the stamp set on my wishlist!! Thank you for playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches.

  20. The blue shades make for a wonderful peaceful card and that bird is amazing! Thanks so much for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches.

  21. This is absolutely stunning!!!!
On many occasions your cards have reminded me to color with our Stampin’ Write markers. I don’t know why I keep forgetting that that’s an option. So thanks for the gentle reminder. And for the beautiful card!

  22. absolutely GORGEOUS!

Now, a question: Do you have a file for all your color combinations? I see them after each of your posts. We can’t buy the coach anymore, and I like yours better! If you have the file, would you sell it?

  23. Brian, I’ve loved this dove since you posted this card in August. It took me until now to try my hand at coloring. Here’s my pales-in-comparison attempt: http://kkstamp.blogspot.com/2015/11/rejoicing-dove.html Thanks for the inspiration!!
