All Ye Faithful for PPA265

One of my favorite possessions is a ceramic Nativity that Mom painted for me years ago.  Although each piece is made from molded clay, the images in the collection all appear to be wooden.  The images in All Ye Faithful (available in Stampin’ Up!’s 2015 Holiday Catalog) have a similarly rustic charm, and I love them for that – not to mention it’s one of my favorite Christmas carols, too.  Here’s my card:

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

PPA 265You might not see it right away, but I was definitely inspired by this sketch.  I flipped the sketch over and used my sentiment as the “tab” that’s featured along the top of the sketch.  The pop of the circle extends to the top of the card front, which coordinates with the base of the sketch.

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • All Ye Faithful.  I love a beautiful Nativity scene.  There’s such peace, joy and love to be found in the collection of people and animals who complete the scene.  Even with so many amazing options of images and sentiments for this week’s Pals Paper Arts project, it was not a difficult decision to use All Ye Faithful.  My original concept used all of the images in this gorgeous Nativity, but the more I played with the images, the more I wanted to keep it simple and to focus on the central three.

  • Watercoloring with Blender Pens.  I’m really enjoying my Archival Basic Black Stampin’ Pad.  Thank you, Stampin’ Up!, for such an awesome addition to our inks.   Thank you.  I stamped this trio on Very Vanilla and colored their robes and accessories with a Blender Pen and inks.  With wide strokes, I colored Joseph’s robe in Soft Sky, allowing some Vanilla to peek out from underneath.  I then painted in some Marina Mist in the dark folds of his robe.  Mary’s robe is colored with Pink Pirouette and highlighted with Calypso Coral. • Staying Neutral.  I really wanted to highlight the beauty of the Nativity so I kept the rest of the card relatively neutral.  Crumb Cake, Basic Black, Very Vanilla and the little Hello Honey stars (from Sweet Li’l Things Designer Series Paper) add the only other color to this card.  It draws our attention to these three.
