Happy Happy Halloween for FabFri72

I had a lot of fun with this week’s FabFriday sketch challenge.  I played around with lots of different layers and colors before landing on this fun combination.  I don’t usually incorporate doilies into my designs, but when Mindy Backes’ sketch calls for a doily, then a doily I shall use.  🙂  Here’s my card for the FabFriday challenge:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

• Darken the Doily.  While the sketch calls for a doily (and the Tea Lace Doilies were an obvious choice), I was really tempted to showcase the Spider Web Doilies for this project – a while doily didn’t seem right for what I wanted to make.  I used my brayer and the Archival Basic Black ink to darken the doily, giving it the richness I needed for a dark backdrop on this card.  The doily is very delicate so brayer with care.
• Twice the Happy.  As if “Happy Halloween” isn’t enough, today I’m wishing you a “Happy Happy Halloween.”  Say them both out loud – there’s quite a difference in how you say “Halloween” after two – count them, two – “Happies”.  Do you recognize this sentiment?  At first glance, it might not stand out.  It’s from the Sweet Hauntings Stamp Set.

  The image is designed to work perfectly with the Note Tag punch (see it in the top, right corner?), but I opted to trim out the askew box around the sentiment and border it with a thin piece of Whisper White.

• Honey Moon.  I knew I wanted a big, bold moon for the center of this darkened doily.  I played with different yellows (there are quite a few in the Stampin’ Up! color collection), and Hello Honey was the perfect shade.  The collection of bats from Witches’ Night stamp set were the perfect accent for my scary moon.  If you like this color combination, too, feel free to save this off:
