Sparkly Seasons for PPA267

This week’s Pals Paper Arts challenge feels like a bit of a curve-ball – and I absolutely love it!  Crushed Curry, Pool Party and Tangerine Tango – so bright and cheery.  I really, really wanted to make something with products from Stampin’ Up!’s 2015 Holiday Catalog, but what?  I was quite stubborn – kicking and screaming and pouting and … “I don’t know what to … OH!  I know!”  And here’s the card I made with these colors and the Sparkly Season stamp set:

Sparkly Season, Happy Scenes, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA267

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:PPA267

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Thick Whisper White to the Rescue.  It all started with this adorable snowman, trapped in a super-fun snow  globe.  I knew from the start that I wanted my snow globe to pop off the front of the card – and with Thick Whisper White, I was able to achieve that without adding additional layers of cardstock under the white.  This paper is sturdy, so it won’t bend or break during transport – we wouldn’t want any of that snow leaking out during the mailing process!

  • Cutting Down the Gold Base.  I had already used Crushed Curry on the snow man’s scarf but needed to pull it into another element of the card.  What to do?  What to do?  The base of the globe had originally been stamped in black and felt really heavy on this small card front, so I gave Crushed Curry a try.  I was surprised at how golden it looked!  Just what I wanted.  I snipped around the image and cut off the bottom layer (with careful precision-snipping) to better fit the petite card front I was creating.

  • Playing with the Layers.  This 4-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ card base is host to a lot of layers of cardstock – I LOVE playing with layers and will keep going until I get the exact feel I’m looking for.  I tried a Tangerine Tango card base and a Whisper White card base.  I tried to make that central panel Pool Party and tried to frame the square of Schoolhouse Designer Series Paper.  Before reaching this collection of squares, I must have tried every possible combination of layers – but when I got here, I knew I had the combination I wanted.  It’s so fun to play with the paper until it sings.
