Proud of You for FabFri73

I love a celebratory card because it’s fun to celebrate the successes of others.  Birthdays and anniversaries are great celebrations (it’s true!) but I really love a plain and simple “Congrats on being awesome” card.  For today’s Fab Friday color challenge – Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive and Soft Suede – I made a “I’m proud of you” card and couldn’t be happier to share it with you.  Here’s my card:

Reason for the Season, Festive Flower Builder punch, Words of Truth, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri73

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Festive Flower Builder Punch.  The Festive Flower punch makes its debut in Stampin’ Up!’s 2015 Holiday Catalog – but it ain’t just for the holidays.  🙂  This punch can be used to make some amazingly beautiful poinsettias, but with a quick switch of colors, the punch can be used to make a purple [type of flower undisclosed] flower.  This was my first flower, and I may have overdone it a bit – I made two layers of each of the three petals and then combined each layer together with Stampin’ Dimensionals – this card won’t fit in a regular envelope – that’s for sure.  Stampin’ Up! made a great video to showcase this punch – I’m sharing it at the bottom of this post.Reason for the Season, Festive Flower Builder punch, Words of Truth, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri73
  • Direct-to-Paper Inking.  The front panel of this card a Whisper White piece of Color Me Irresistible Specialty Designer Series Paper that I have inked up with Soft Suede.  There are so many ways to add ink to paper – I could have used a sponge or dauber or brayer or AquaPainter – but I simply pressed the ink pad directly on the paper and wiped across.  The direct-to-paper method can be messy, but it sure is efficient.
  • Masked Sentiment.  I just love the inspirational and supporting sentiments in the Words of Truth stamp set.  While the set features some wonderfully silly statements (like the one about grilled cheese), there are so many that are also perfect for beautiful, sophisticated projects.  This sentiment says “i’m proud of you,” but the “i’m” made it too long for this card (since my flower hogged so much space), so I masked it out – same meaning, right?  If you want to know more about isolating images on a stamp, see my video here.

  19. A real WOW factor, Brian. First, this color combo is great. Lovely colors together and I actually thought your wood grain paper was a piece of the Into the Woods dsp. Great job on the coloring the paper. Good thing we have the envelope punch board so you can make a matching envelope to fit the gorgeous flower! Super job! Thanks for sharing.
