A Halloween Boo for PPA269

This week’s sketch for the Pals Paper Arts is going to tug at the creative thinker in you – because you’ll have to get creative to make this sketch work.  I could only see this in my head when I sat down to create, but I LOVE the projects the other Design Team Members created with this sketch.  Yippee!  Here’s my fun Halloween card for PPA269:

Happy Scenes, Howl-o-ween Treat, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA269

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Spider Web Doilies.  I couldn’t step away from the Spider Web Doilies to create the half-circle on this project.  It worked out perfectly that I had a half-doily on my desk AND that there were five points on the doily that matched the sketch perfectly – could this sketch have been designed any better?  A little spider in the corner and a friendly “boo” (both from Happy Scenes stamp set) gave me the additional elements I needed to complete this project.
  • Added Texture and Color.  The doily is lovely, but it needed some additional layering to make it perfect for what I wanted here.  I added half circles (cut with Circles Collection Framelits and a 2″ Circle punch beneath the doily and little bubbles of purple from the Happy Scenes stamp set (it’s snow in the stamp set).  The added colors and textures help to round out the card.  When I was done, I needed something light and fun – that’s where this pumpkin from Howl-o-week Treats saved me – it adds a little whimsy to the card and offers a much-needed brightness.
  • Color Inspiration.  I used some traditional Halloween colors to create this fun card – Tangelo Twist and Basic Black are lightened up a bit with Rich Razzleberry and Crushed Curry.  I really like that the yellow pumpkin takes center stage on this busy design.  If you like these colors, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! 18. How serendipitous that the doily would have five points! It’s as if I planned it when I created this awfully challenging sketch. I adore your interpretation, not only for the doily, but for the way you used the spider and the sentiment for the corner elements. Bravo!
