Three Things I Like: Holly Borgen

When I come across a card I love, I enjoy sharing it with you – and I really enjoy telling you WHY I like it so much.  During last weekend’s World Card Making Day event here in Atlanta (read more about it here), I was excited to receive 50 amazing cards in our organized card swap.  All of the cards were incredible!  Holly Borgen’s Snow Place card was a standout to me.  Here’s Holly’s card:

Snow Place, Stampin' Up!, by Holly BorgenThree Things I Like About Holly’s Card:

  • Snow Place to the Max.  Not only does Holly’s swap card feature the adorable penguin from Snow Place, but she showcases FIVE other images from the set that coordinate with this adorable, flightless bird.  What a great way to showcase this set without overdoing it!  With a hat, necktie and candy cane, this guy is ready to party!  Snow Place is packed with great sentiments, and this is one of them.  The pale blue snowflakes add the perfect accent to this card.  There are certainly more images in this set Holly could have used, but I think she found the exact right balance.

  • Sophisticated Penguin.  We all agree that this penguin is cute and adorable – the whole set is.  Even the sentiments and fonts used to create them are playful and fun.  On the other hand, there’s nothing whimsical about the very-sophisticated and super-serious Mossy Meadow or the Mossy Meadow paper from Merry Moments Designer Series Paper.  You’d think these wouldn’t pair well together, but they do!  I love that Holly paired this silly bird with this rich background – the pairing adds a wonderful sophistication to the bundled up bird.
  • Layout.  Quite simply, the layout of Holly’s card is a winner!  I love that the Mossy Meadow panel blends in with the card’s base.  A simple rectangle across a split panel of cardstock and Designer Series Paper is perfect.  To pull it all together, Holly’s Real Red cotton ribbon and bow add the perfect touch to finish off this wonderful card.

Stamp Sets:  Snow Place  Papers:  Merry Moments Designer Series Paper, Mossy Meadow, Real Red, Whisper White  Inks:  Archival Basic Black, Real Red, Mossy Meadow, Pool Party, Stampin’ Write Markers (Tangelo Twist, Hello Honey)  Accessories:  Snow Friends Framelits Dies, Real Red 1/4″ Cotton Ribbon, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll leave a comment below to let Holly know how much you like the card she made for this swap.

Thanks for stopping by today!
