You’re Sweet for GDP009

This week’s Color Challenge from the Global Design Project offers a gorgeous collection of 2015-2017 In Colors – Tip Top Taupe, Mint Macaron and Watermelon Wonder.  What a beautiful assortment!  You have a neutral color and subtle color and a bright color.  I played around with shapes while I played around with these colors and had a lot of fun making this 4-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ card:

You're So Sweet, Made with Love, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP009

And here’s the banner for this week’s Global Design Project challenge that inspired my card:GDP-009

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Strips of Hearts.  When I set out to make this card, I really, really wanted to use the strawberries paper from the Sweet Li’l Things Designer Series Paper.  In the end, the paper was brighter than what I wanted.  Once I had everything laid out (there was no Designer Series Paper on the card), I had a quick thought to add a small panel of hearts – I came across the paper as I was studying the strawberries.  After I added a strip of hearts to the sides of the central panel, I decided I needed to add the same hearts to the sides of the central panel.

  • Pink Borders.  I love to find symmetry in a card.  The sentiment is punched with a 1-3/4″ Circle punch – and it’s Watercolor Wonder border is punched with a 2″ Circle punch.  To keep that same border size, I made sure to crop my Watermelon Wonder border around the outside of the card front 1/4″ larger than the Very Vanilla panel.  The consistency of framing, in my opinion, is soothing to the eye.
  • More Hearts.  I constructed the central panel with the Lots of Labels Framelits, Tip Top Taupe cardstock and Mint Macaron Cardstock.  The soft panels allowed the sentiment to really pop.  Yay!  I wanted to add something more without adding more (you know what I mean), so I grabbed my Made for You stamp set and stamped tiny hearts on the Mint Macaron piece with VersaMark ink – to add a soft collection of the hearts on the panel.
