Very Merry for GDP010

This week’s sketch for the Global Design Project is super-simple, and there are so many ways to “dress it up.”  I chose to piece together four squares of Home for Christmas Designer Series Paper to make one pattern – oh what fun!  I hope you’ll play along with this challenge, too – I’d love to see what you come up with.  Here’s my card:

And here’s the super-fun Global Design Project sketch that inspired my card:

GDP-010Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Simple Tree.  I didn’t want a fancy, decorated tree for the front of these patterned squares – the Perfect Pines Framelits gave me a lovely tree without a lot of excess.  I COULD have stamped the tree with my Peaceful Pines stamp set, but I wasn’t convinced it needed it.  A plain, Old Olive tree would suffice.  Of course, I adorned it with a Daffodil Delight star (thank you, Itty Bitty Accents punch pack) and an adorable And Many more sentiment cropped with the Word Window punch.  A Real Red Candy Dot sealed the deal that the simple tree was the right choice.

  • Creating a New Pattern with Striped Paper.  Sure, the tree and star and sentiment are cute on this card, but the star of the show is the fun pattern with the Home for Christmas Designer Series Paper.  Here’s a quick summary of how I created this fun pattern:How to Create New Patterns with Diagonally-Striped Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Traditional Color Combination.  I love the simplicity of this card – it was hard for me to NOT add more layers, but I stayed true to the simple card I imagined.  Besides, I didn’t want anything to take away from the gorgeous pattern I created with the Home for Christmas Designer Series Paper.  If you like these colors, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! 12. O.K. Brian – Yes, you did give us written instructions for how you put this out of this world beautiful paper into such a perfectly matching square BUT you make it sound so easy. • Grace – I like to share ideas in different ways – changing things up between videos, written descriptions and picture tutorials. As you point out, everyone learns in different ways, so mixing things up allows me to meet a lot of different people where they are. There will be videos on other topics soon, but I feel this idea was best conveyed through pictures. If you have questions or need further instruction, please feel free to email me directly. Thanks!
