Festive Fireplace for PPA275

This week’s Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge includes three colors from the 2014-2016 In Color collection:  Blackberry Bliss, Hello Honey and Tangelo Twist.  I love each of them, but it was a challenge for me to put them all together.  I had just received the Festive Fireplace photopolymer stamp set when I sat down to create this card, so I challenged myself to use it with these colors.  Here’s my card for this week’s challenge:

And here’s the banner for this week’s color challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders.

  • Festive Fireplace.  This stamp set was not immediately on my my wish list, but the more I’ve looked at it and enjoyed project that others have made with it, the closer it got to my list.  While the stamps can be bundled with the Festive Fireside Framelits (who doesn’t love a bundle?), I resisted the urge and only ordered the stamp set.  The images are adorable, and I’ll just have to figure out ways to use them without needing the coordinating Framelits.  Will I regret that decision in the future?  Only time can tell.

  • Festive Find.  I immediately smiled when I realized the fire image would incorporate two of the colors in this challenge: Hello Honey and Tangelo Twist.  With blending from Aqua Painters on watercolor paper, I was able to create a beautiful fire.  I needed something, though, to accent the fire.  As I scoured through all the patterns and colors in my Designer Series Papers, I came across this page from Sweet Li’l Things Designer Series Paper – perfect!  The color works, and the patterns seem to mimic the popping fire.  The panel across the card adds warmth to this fireplace, don’t you think?
  • Staying Neutral.  As a general rule, it’s safe to add a neutral or two to most color challenges.  Since the logs didn’t fit into the purple, orange or yellow colors for this challenge, I painted them Crumb Cake.  To further tie Crumb Cake into the card’s design, I added a panel of Crumb Cake to the card base.  It gave me the perfect foundation for the card’s sentiment.

Stamp Sets:  Festive Fireplace  Papers:  Sweet Li’l Things Designer Series Paper, Crumb Cake, Blackberry Bliss, Watercolor Paper  Inks:  Archival Basic Black, Hello Honey, Tangelo Twist, Crumb Cake  Accessories:  AquaPainter, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to the Pals Paper Arts blog to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

  1. Sweet and simple. Reminds me of a cozy autumn evening!

  2. Hummm… like you, Festive Fireplace has been on my wish list but not made it to order – YET. May have to bump this one up. Love how you used the Blender Pens for the fire, very fire-looking. By the way if anyone can get by without the Framelits, it’s you, King of fussy cutting!

  4. I have also thought about getting the stamp set …love that fire and logs. Your dsp choice is just right in the color challenge ,but kinda looks like snow falling …Not sure I would want to see snow falling out of an orange colored sky ….This would go with that Have a cozy Christmas stamp !!! Love it

    • Sonny – Ha! I was going for the “ashes popping” vs. the “snow falling.” You know, all those little white things that pop off a fire? 🙂 Squint a little, and you’ll see it. Then, please mail me a nickel. HA!

  5. This would be a perfect card for our Boy Scout troop to make! 🙂

  6. Just love it. Living in the mountains of Colorado, we have a lot of fires in the fireplace and camping. To me, it showed cold and warmth. I have a few “only stamps or only die sets”. The delicate ornament is the one set where I only have the dies. I have other Stampin Up stamp sets I can use this with.

  7. Such a “warm” idea to isolate the fire image. This time of year it is nice to see a warm fire as it was 5 degrees in Butte yesterday morning. Got a chuckle about the ashes too!

  8. I crown you King of layering!

  9. Ah Brian – Festive Fireplace is one of my favorite stamp sets but not because of the fireplace, because of the cat! LOL You did a great job with this color combo for sure. This is one stamp set I think everyone should have.

  10. Brrr…. I need this right now Brian… the fire, that is. Love this clean and simple display. Thanks for sharing and send some of that fire this way.

  11. Cozy, toasty card! Clean and wonderful as always!

  12. You are so talented and creative. Love it!

  13. I see smoke coming out the top of the card…I can smell it too and I love the smell of burning wood. Makes me feel warm all over…which is what I need lately. Love your talent!

  14. I think you needed some gold glitter to add some embers crackling off the fire 😉 Maggie’s got a great “glitter snow” technique she shared this week. In your case, I guess it would be “glitter embers”… Secretly, I know you looooove glitter. Give in! Come over to the glitter side!!!
