Silent Night with All Ye Faithful

I have a soft place in my heart for the images in Stampin’ Up!’s All Ye Faithful stamp set.  To me, the sketched images appear to be wooden figurines.  As such, I don’t add a lot of color to the figures – instead, I tend to lean toward the blacks and browns when designing a project with them.  That’s exactly what I did when I made this card with Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus for one of my local stamp clubs.  Here’s my project:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Home for Christmas.  While the Home for Christmas pack of Designer Series Paper contains some many fun pages (the Santas, the reindeer, the candy cane stripes), this page of sheet music for Silent Night stands out as purely beautiful.  Basic Black on weathered Very Vanilla – so striking.  It just felt right to pair this paper with this image of the Nativity.  I’ve been using this paper since it first arrived on my doorstep, and I saved this piece for a sweet and simple project – and I’m glad I did.

  • Light Blending.  I stamped the image on the Crumb Cake panel with Archival Basic Black ink and again on a piece of Very Vanilla.  I used a Blender Pen to paint Crumb Cake onto the Very Vanilla piece before snipping it out and gluing it down over the one on Crumb Cake.  You really can’t color over the image too many times or you will start to tear into the paper.  I used steady, broad strokes moving mostly from the tops of the images to the bottom.  I added a little extra ink to some of the folds of the robes for added depth.  I made this card with one of my local clubs.  They really enjoyed creating the texture on the figures. All Ye Faithful, Jingle All the Way, Stampin' Up! • A Touch of Shine.  As I mentioned earlier, I didn’t want to add color to the project – the Basic Black, Very Vanilla and Crumb Cake combination made me very happy.  I did, though add a little shine to Baby Jesus’ halo – at Lydia’s suggestion.  I squeezed a small amount of Gold Glitz Dazzling Details onto a clear block and used an old Blender Pen to pick some up and dab it onto the image.  No swiping or smearing – just dabbing.  It gave my project the right amount of added dazzle. 4. This is so beautiful. Love how you layered “silent night” over the song music. The gold dazzling details on the crown is perfection!

  5. That’s EXACTLY the perfect look for this set – and I thought you had used bleach instead of what you did. So pretty.

  6. Do what?? I know you are fantastic with a pair of paper snips but didn’t think even you, not to mention all your club members, could snip out this entire image including the crook of the staff! is there maybe a detail left out here? Either way it is a wonderful card and classic Brian King!!

    • Thanks, Katie! It’s actually easier than that. The image was stamped on the Crumb Cake and on the Very Vanilla. When we snipped the Very Vanilla piece, we just cut the staff right off. It’s almost seamless when you glue the Very Vanilla piece on top. Easy peasy. 🙂

      • Ah! All the details were there. If I had just read your post more carefully I would have understood! I am going to attribute it to the fact I was not totally awake! It is truly a fabulous card! Thanks for repeating the details.

  7. Lovely, soft. Slight gold on the halo is brilliant

  8. 15 Layer King, It’s amazing cards like this one that makes me love you so much. Your work is brilliant. (Stop grinning!) I can’t wait to CASE and share The King’s work. Happy Thanksgiving ?

  9. Oh Brian – your card actually brought a tear to my eye. Silent Night is my favorite of all the Christmas music. At our church on Christmas Eve we sing the first verse in English and the rest in German. It’s beautiful and very moving. Why German you ask? Well, our church was founded and built by German immigrants and we do that for the very old folks still with us in the congregation. It brings them great joy. Oh what a memory your card brought to mind today! Thank you.

  10. Oh I love that dsp Brian, you did a wonderful job friend, Tfs,

  11. Absolutely Beautiful! Simple, yet very Elegant! Another winner!

  12. Simply gorgeous Brian. I really like how you incorporated the idea of the song with the DSP. I love neutrals, so your color choices are superb. Adding that tiny bit of sparkle provided the perfect finishing touch.

  13. This is a jaw dropper Brian! I love all the layers and then when I focused on the stamping and blender pen shading, I just felt an air of calmness and serenity! If SU would have featured this stunner – the set and paper would have sold out in a record time! I usually make the religious themed cards with my demo so I don’t have any sets but this one may have to find it’s way to my house so I can try my hand at this. I am not very good at shading. Of course the fun touch of gold on the halo is the crowning point! Sorry, couldn’t help myself. Can you tell I love this card?

  14. AWESOME!! This is how I saw this stamp set too… I LOVE simple… I LOVE what you have done here…. Thanks for sharing….
