An Embellished Ornament for GDP012

One of my favorite challenges from the Global Design Project is our “CASE the Designer” challenge.  Every fourth week, our card-making inspiration is based on a project by one of our Design Team Members.  What fun!

This week, I am honored that the team and challenge participants will CASE (Copy and Share Everything) one of my cards.  It’s easy – you can draw your inspiration from the stamp set, the layout, the color choices, the card size, the sentiment, the theme…whatever your heart desires.  Here’s my card, a CASE of another card by me:

Embellished Ornaments, Christmas Greetings Thinlits Dies, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP012And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

GDP-012In case you missed my fun and festive Snow Place project on its first pass through my blog, you can see the original post here.  Today, though, I’m focused on my Embellished ornaments project.

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Depth with Dies.  In my penguins card, I created fun dimension with the Pool Party snowbank (cropped with the Sleigh Ride Thinlits) and the placement of the birds along the bank.  Even though they are the exact same size, the one on the left looks taller because of his placement on the card and his hat.  For today’s card, I cropped out the “merry” sentiment with the Christmas Greetings Thinlits to add depth to the already beautiful ornament.  I kept the inside pieces fromt he “e” and “y” and carefully glued them back in on the finished project.Embellished Ornaments, Christmas Greetings Thinlits Dies, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP012
  • Such a square.  I wanted today’s card to mimic the shape of the card I was CASEing.  The shape of a card can help make a card more casual or more formal.  You can’t go wrong with square cards – they fit every occasion.  I often hear people complain that square cards are more expensive to mail, and that’s not always true.  The costs of mailing something in the U.S. depends on the shape of the envelope, not the shape of the card inside.  Don’t skip making square cards because of extra postage – just tuck them neatly inside a rectangular envelope.  Problem solved.  🙂
  • Aqua and Red.  I adore the combination of aqua and red.  In my penguin card, I combined light aqua (Pool Party) and rich red (Cherry Cobbler).  For today’s ornament card, though, I combined rich aqua (Lost Lagoon) and light red (Real Red).  I used this same combination of colors in a fun Snow Place card I shared last week – you can see it here. If you like this combination of colors, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Lost Lagoon, Real Red, Whisper White

I hope you’ll pop over to the Global Design Project design site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.  Since this week is MY challenge, I’d LOVE for you to play along – it’s a busy week, but I know you can make time.  🙂

Thanks for stopping by today!
