Woodland Embossing Folder and Three Things I Like: Paulette Birkbigler

I love our daily visits when I get to share my newly made paper crafting projects with you.  I am so glad I get to play around with paper and ink and that you stop by to see what I’ve made.  Today, I want to share a card that I did not make – today’s card was sent to me by my super-talented friend and customer, Paulette Birkbigler.  I am going to show you the card she made and then tell you three things I really, really love about this card.  Here’s the card I received:

Lovely as a Tree, Woodland Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Stampin' Up!, by Paulette BirkbiglerHow gorgeous is this card – and how lucky am I that Paulette created it and sent it to me?  I love so many things about this card, but I’m going to talk about three things I like most (hard to limit myself, but I’ll see what I can do).

Three Things I Like About Paulette’s Card

  • Winter Birthday.  Birthday cards don’t always have to be cake, candles and presents.  Let me restate that – there should always be cake, candles and presents on a birthday, but the card doesn’t always have to include those images.  🙂  I love that Paulette chose a winter theme for this birthday card – even though this image looks nothing like the 80 degree weather we are experiencing in Georgia.  Still, I love that she allowed these versatile images to work for this occasion.
  • A Tree in the Woods.  To create the green tree behind the embossed birch trees, Paulette inked up the tree from Lovely as a Tree and stamped it on the side of the embossing folder where the trees are indented.  With the ink on one portion of the folder, she ran the folder through the Big Shot with a piece of Whisper White inside.  Super-cool effect, huh?  I’m not sure where this technique originated, but it’s been all the rage this Holiday Season.  Since the Woodland Textured Impressions Embossing Folder has been on backorder for most of this catalog term (due to overwhelming popularity), I haven’t played with this folder, but I’m happy I can share Paulette’s gorgeous card with you.
  • Soft Painting.  Not only did Paulette add the green tree in the background before embossing the paper, but she watercolored the space between the trees.  I’ve seen lots of great projects with this embossing folder – so many ways to color the trees or add texture behind them.  This is one of my favorites.  The mixture of pale blue and white creates a mystical feel behind these trees.  So soft, so beautiful.
  • Gorgeous Colors.  I love the colors Paulette used in this gorgeous card.  While Smoky Slate (used for the base of this card) and Real Red (used for the die-cut bird) are not the focal colors of this project, they sure do look great together.  The green is more largely present than the red or slate, but I don’t think the role of the color is as important.Stampin' Up! Update on the Woodland Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  As I mentioned above, the Woodland Textured Impressions Embossing Folder has been super-popular this season.  It was so popular, as a matter of fact, that Stampin’ Up! completely sold out of the folders after several restocks.  When Stampin’ Up!’s list of retired items was announced last month, this folder was (sadly) on the list.  After much consideration, Stampin’ Up! has decided to bring this folder back in the 2016 Annual Catalog.  It’s still not available to order right now, but you are in luck if you didn’t pick it up before it was gone.  Your second chance is just around the corner.  🙂

I hope you love Paulette’s card as much as I do.  If so, please leave a comment below to let her know how much you like it.

Thanks for stopping by today!

  15. Do love this card Paulette and thanks Brian for sharing. I have seen a card made like this but you explanation added to my wonderment on how it was done. Can you explain watercoloring the space between the trees? I really don’t understand watercoloring. By the way Happy Birthday Brian.

    • LilyAnn, Thank you for your comments. With an AquaPainter, it’s easy to watercolor on the cardstock. With water in the cartridge, you can pull ink from an ink pad and then paint it over the cardstock. To show you, here’s a link to a video I shared about using the AquaPainter: http://wp.me/p4c2zA-APF I hope that helps!

  16. Love the card and tree behind trees.
