Celebrate with GDP016

The Global Design Team is hosting a “CASE the Designer” challenge this week.  We all created projects inspired by a card created by Bibi Cameron (which was super-easy to do because Bibi’s gorgeous Christmas card is filled with gorgeous depth and texture.  Inspiration could be found in the colors, technique, layout, theme – anything.  Here’s my card:

GDP016Bibi’s shaker card is just beautiful – and its watercolored background is an unexpected look for a Christmas card.  I CASE’d the layout of Bibi’s card – with the circle in the middle and the die-cut sentiment across it.  My card also CASE’d the overall celebratory feel of Bibi’s card.  I hope I make her proud with my super-simple, clean project.

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • A Glossy Sentiment.  This white, glossy sentiment was left over from the swap cards I created for Stampin’ Up!’s Convention this year.  I got a little carried away with my spray painting – and my card making couldn’t keep up.  As such, I have quite a few of these wooden masterpieces to use up or hand out.  If you’d like a look back at how I painted them, click here.Converting Expressions Natural Elements from Flat to Flashy, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Lots of White.  Even with the introduction of Thick Whisper White, I don’t naturally gravitate toward white as the base of a card.  With this vibrant piece of Melon Mambo paper from the It’s My Party Designer Series Paper Stack and the bold Bermuda Bay balloon, though, I needed something savory to offset the sweet (kinda like having a glass of water after eating a piece of cake to dilute the sugar in your system a bit).  The Whisper White base helps to bring out the stars on the paper and is a perfect backdrop for this glossy white sentiment.
  • Vibrant Color Combination.  I just love this combination of Melon Mambo and Bermuda Bay (a pink-and-blue combination is always exciting).  Add in a touch of yellow with a Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Write Marker (I colored in a few of the stars), and you’ve got a color combination that wows.  Whisper White plays a very important role in this card, too, so I’m giving it credit here, as well:Stampin' Up!
