You’re the Best – a Sneak Peek at the Sunburst Thinlits Die

I love playing around with new products – as a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, I have early access to items from Stampin’ Up!’s Occasions Catalog and Sale-a-Bration event (both kick off on January 5).  Today I’m sharing a cute card that features a sentiment from a new stamp set, a wonderful, new Thinlits die and a new Designer Series Paper Stack.  What fun!  Here’s my card:

Happy Home, Sunburst Thinlits Dies, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • So Square.  I love a square card – unless you make them all the time, they can be unexpected and fun for the recipient.  I cropped this sunburst with the Sunburst Thinlits Die and a piece of Crushed Curry Cardstock – I placed that cutout over a piece of patterned paper from the Have a Cuppa Designer Series Paper Stack.  While this die is perfect for a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ card (the rays extend the length of a card front), I’ve cropped them to make a square with the center in the middle of the card.  Because my finished card is 4-1/4″ x 4-1/4″, I can still mail it in a Medium Envelope and don’t have to pay anything additional for mailing it (it only costs more if the envelope is a square).  🙂

  • Happy Home.  While the sentiment is not the most incredible feature of this project (I mean, how incredible is that Sunburst die?), it’s certainly a great sentiment from a wonderful stamp set.  Not only are the four sentiments in Happy Home, a new stamp set from the upcoming Occasions Catalog great, but the images are perfect for a clean-and-simple card and pair perfectly with the Hearth & Home Thinlits Dies.  If you didn’t pick up these dies in the Holiday Catalog, you have another chance – AND you can buy them in a bundle with this great stamp set.

  • Bright Color Combination.  I love this combination of Bermuda Bay and Crushed Curry – the richness of the yellow really helps the blue to pop.  I’ve added in white layers to really help these colors work together.  If you also like these colors, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! Occasions Catalog Product Shares and Swatch Books.  I’ve already received several questions about the upcoming product shares.  YES!  I will be hosting product shares and making Designer Series Swatch Books for the new Designer Series Papers.  What fun!  Product shares are a great way for you to get a little bit of each of the new products (ribbons, papers, embellishments) at a fraction of the price once the catalog goes live.  I’ll be sharing more about them with you tomorrow, so please be on the lookout.  Woo hoo!

  1. What a great use of the Sunburst die.It may NEED to be on my next order. So happy someone else likes layers as much as I do!

  2. Just ordered this die and you have made me feel great about the purchase. Love the burst of color and simple design!

  3. Love your creativity with this die as well as the bright colors. Great card, Brian.

  4. Great card! Thanks for the square card tip, too. I have to add that to my repertoire of shaped cards, which currently consists of circles and A2s. 😉 I can’t wait to get my hands on this die! Holding out for Jan. 5.

  5. Brilliant idea Brian to use the die in a different shape. After playing with the mask that came with one of the kits last year I was over the moon seeing this die come out in the Occasions catalog. Now I can create more masks as well as playing with the die cuts themselves. Thanks for the inspiration. You never fail us!
    Hugs and Merry Christmas.

  6. Hi Brian! I am loving the square card. I do have a question about the sunburst thinlit. In order to center it and use it as you did on this card, di you have to do anything at all different to the sunburst except for cropping it to make it fit your card. In the picture of the thinlit it look a little more one sided so I am just wanting tp know about it since I plan to order it today. Do you recommend the stamp set that goes with this thinlit? Thanks, Sherry

    • Sherry, Thanks so much for the comment! Glad you like the card. I really love this Thinlit – I cropped a square of this paper and then placed the Thinlit in center to crop the circle where I wanted it. Really easy. The coordinating stamp set is quite inexpensive when you buy the bundle – I haven’t yet used it, but I have it. Enjoy!
