Three Things I Like: Candy Ford

I love that I can share new and fun projects with you every day.  Most days, I share my projects – every once in a while, I’m honored to share the work of someone else (a customer, friend or team member).  When I do, I like to give you my “expert analysis” of the card.  Today, I’m sharing a super-fun card I received from Candy Ford, a member of InKing Royalty, my Stampin’ Up! team.  Candy can always be found on her blog at Stamp Candy (stampcandy.net).  Here’s Candy’s card:

A Nice Cuppa, Cups & Kettles Framelits, Have a Cuppa Designer Series Paper Stack, Stampin' Up!, Candy Ford

How fun is that?  Here’s where my fun begins – I’m going to share my thoughts about Candy’s wonderful card and limit myself to just three things I like most about her card (you already know I like a challenge).  🙂

Three Things I Like About Candy’s Card

  • Super-Cool Layout.  These large images (relative to the card front) can be difficult to work with – if you aren’t careful, they’ll take over the entire card.  Candy centered the two tea cups perfectly on a 4-1/2″ x 2-3/4″ piece of Bermuda Bay.  The sentiment balanced out the panel perfectly.  I love that she overlapped the cups, popping one up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  While both are Melon Mambo and Whisper White, she used different patterns from Have a Cuppa Designer Series Paper Stack – these patterns look great next to each other.  So, I love that.  THEN…she positioned the panel down and to the right on the card front.  How clever is that?!  It’s almost like she squinted to make sure everything was balanced perfectly (you can see my “patented” tecnhique here).  I just don’t remember seeing that nickel arrive in the mail from Candy…
  • Split Panel.  Not only did Candy use the Melon Mambo patterns from Have a Cuppa Designer Series Paper Stack perfectly on these tea cups, but I love how she split the base of the card horizontally with two different lemon patterns from the same stack.  You’d almost no see it if you weren’t looking for it (did you see it?), but it adds such a nice element to this card.

  • Little Details.  You already know what a fan I am of White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, right?  What a clever idea to stamp these lemon rinds in VersaMark and heat emboss in white!  The three lemons (everything is better in threes) really pop on this card.  The white embossed  sentiment on Bermuda Bay is a perfect balance to the rest of that panel.  I was going to just talk about the lemons here (since this is my third thing I like), but I can’t NOT talk about the way Candy added a spoon to the larger mug.  How fun is that?  She cropped a spoon (part of the Cups & Kettle Framelits Dies) and added it to the mug.  Clever!  It really adds “action” to the card; these mugs aren’t just sitting there – someone had better start stirring!

Stamp Sets:  A Nice Cuppa  Papers:  Have a Cuppa Designer Series Paper Stack, Basic Gray, Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, Silver Foil  Accessories:  White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Cups & Kettle Framelits Dies, Stampin’ Dimensionals
