Amy Lazzell created a fun sketch for us this week at Pals Paper Arts. I immediately knew I wanted to showcase one of the beautiful prints from one of this year’s amazing Sale-a-Bration selections – Wildflower Fields Designer Series Paper. I pulled the colors from this paper to make this sweet card that’s perfect for almost any celebration. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for Amy’s challenge that inspired my card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Busy Patterns. This paper sure is pretty – but with so many colors and detailed flowers, it can be busy, busy, busy. To make sure the print didn’t take over the entire card, I selected a simple sentiment and bordered it with a large circle (this adds distance between the sentiment and the printed paper). I also kept my “vertical band” solid so as to not add-to the pattern.
- Quick Embellishment. I love this sentiment from Birthday Blossoms, a stamp set in Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Annual Catalog. It’s not perfectly centered, so I tucked it into the bottom corner of the circle punch when I punched it out. OK, so I know that circles don’t have corners, Smarty Pants, but you know what I was saying, right? To further balance it all out, I added a Calypso Coral flower with my Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack (that’s necessary to have!) and a Pearl Basic Jewel. This is a perfect accent for this sentiment and pairs perfectly with this paper!
- Spring Color Combination. Blackberry Bliss is one of the 2014-2016 In Colors that will be going away at the end of May (unless Stampin’ Up! surprises us with a color refresh and includes this luscious, deep purple in the permanent collection of colors). Hello Honey and Lost Lagoon (also 2014-2016 In Colors) are included in the background of this paper, too, but I pulled Blackberry Bliss and Calypso Coral (a former In Color that transitioned into a Subtles color) for the rest of my card. If you like to combination of colors, too, feel free to save this:
Stamp Sets: Birthday Blossoms Papers: Wildflower Fields Designer Series Paper, Calypso Coral, Blackberry Bliss, Whisper White Inks: Blackberry Bliss Accessories: 2″ Circle punch, 1-3/4″ Circle punch, 1-3/8″ Circle punch, Hexagon punch (for banner tips), Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack (flower), Pearl Basic Jewels, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to Pals Paper Arts to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!
Brian
Oh my, LOVE!!
Thanks, Lucy!
I love how you used the larger calypso coral borders. It makes that color pop. And the combination of the blackberry and coral is awesome! The bitty flower really works. I love it!
I love layers and matting – glad you appreciate that, too. Thanks!
Thank you so much Brian for including a breakdown photo at the end, I love the look of the card and would be struggling to figure out the different circle layer sizes!
I’m happy you like them. I’m not always able to give that graphic, but I do always list the products I used. Thanks!
Love all those layers, Brian! The DSP certainly takes the spotlight, as you intended, and is gorgeous with all the other elements. The itty bitty flower is the sweetest addition to the sentiment too! Takes for sharing at the PPA this week.
Thanks Dawn. I was happy with the addition of the little flower, too. 🙂
Wow, I’m embarrassed to say, I have not even opened my Wildflower Fields. Better get to it. As always, another wonderful card. I really like what you did with the great sketch. I’ll have to give it a try.
Dianne – there are lots of great patterns in that paper! Lots.
I love everything about this card. I struggle a lot with busy paper.
I too hope SU adds Blackberry Bliss to the colors, it’s such a rich fun color.
Thanks, Katrina. I struggle with busy paper, too, but there’s a way around it. 🙂
What a nice sketch ….so versatile and you did a great layout with it .
The colors are so vivid and that strip of Blackberry and the teensie flower really add the perfect pop ! Keeper kind of card !!
Thanks, Sonny! I’m quite fond of these colors.
You are the king of pretty paper combined with the perfect sentiment!
I love both. Thanks for the kind compliment, Mary.
Best card ever!
Thanks, Dawn!
Pretty card – showcased that DSP to perfection!
That’s a huge compliment coming from you, Linda. Thanks!
Love! Makes me want to call in sick and stamp…..
Any other reason to call in sick? 🙂
Love this combination of colors Brian, you took this sketch and ran away with it, love that you showed the DSP in the biggest panel, looks so beautiful like that.
Thanks, Maria. I’m a big fan of DSP.
Love this card, Brian, with it bright colors and the pretty DSP, plus all the layers (your specialty). Thanks.
I do love me some layers, right? Sometimes I amaze myself with how many end up on my card.
Oh Brian – this card is stunning. I love Blackberry Bliss and have found that it goes with just about every other color that I own. It’s rich and powerful yet doesn’t have to take center stage on every card. You did one fabulous job with both this color combo and the sketch. I stand in awe of your talent.
You are too kind, Grace! <3 Blackberry Bliss is one of my favorites, too!
Another skillful combo done to perfection!
Beautiful Card! Brian, I just LOVE your cards. They are all so crisp and clean. Always stunning!
Thank you for sharing!
Thanks, Donna! I am so happy I get to share with you and so many others.
Oh so pretty, Brian. Colors are wonderful. I too like Blackberry Bliss and hope they bring it back. Have to admit I have not opened my paper, as yet, and at first, Brian, I thought you had made your own DSP. I can see you doing that. Gorgeous, every detail, my friend.
What a lovely card Brian!!! Love it!!
Lovely Brian! I love the pretty, little flower added to the sentiment.
Thanks, Beth. Helps keep everything balanced. 🙂
Love this Brian – a great way to use the busy paper and the perfect-shaped sentiment for your circle with a sweet flower to balance (the squint works every time 🙂 ) I might have to case this one for some customer thank you cards to use up some of my mountains of SAB Flowering Fields paper!!
CASE away, my friend. Thanks for your kind words!
