Let’s Get Away for PP283 and CYCI#108

Before I jump into today’s super-fun card, I want to thank Sandy Mathis, designer extraordinaire for the Paper Players, for selecting my Fabulous Four birthday card (you can see that card here) as A Cut Avoe over at the Paper Players.  Thanks, Sandy.  Selecting my card is a testament to your keen eye and amazing sense of style.  🙂I love when I can create a card with more than one online challenge.  I knew what stamps sets I wanted to make as soon as I saw the Up…Up…and Away Theme Challenge at The Paper Players this week.  There are so many options for Joanne James’ Clean-and-Simple theme this week.  I looked to Can You Case It’s sketch to help me bring my card to life.  Here’s my card:

And here are the Theme and Sketch challenges that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Going Global and Project Life Let’s Get Away.  There are so many great images and sentiments in the Going Global stamp set (part of this year’s Occasions Catalog).  The fun globe stands out to me and can be used in so many ways.  I created a retro-appeal by stamping this globe in Lost Lagoon on Whisper White cardstock and adding a snipped airplane from Project Life Let’s Get Away.  Doesn’t it feel like an old PanAm ad?  I cropped the globe with Circles Collection Framelits, a 2″ Circle punch and a 2-1/2″ Circle punch to add a little depth between the globe and the rest of the card.

  • Retro Tie-in.  There are so many things to love about Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Series Papers.  I love that the papers (even in suite-inspired collections) are versatile for all occasions and at different times of the year.  Wildflower Fields Designer Series Paper, one of the items you can earn with a $50 purchase during Sale-a-Bration.  While one side of the paper is filled with flowers, the other side is festooned with bold patterns and shapes.  I love this pattern of thin stripes – the Basic Black, Hello Honey, Lost Lagoon and Old Olive colors play into the retro look of this card.

  • Fun Color Combination.  While the Wildflower Fields Designer Series Paper introduces a touch of green and yellow to the card, I principally designed the card with Basic Black, Lost Lagoon and Whisper White.  Such a masculine look with a soft side, don’t you think?  If you like this combination of colors, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! 6. Hi Brian:

Love this card, especially the plane heading for places unknown! The Going Global set is one of my favorites and is a lot more versatile then I thought it would be. I love the way you layer cards, especially this one and that itsy bitsy piece of black behind the globe really makes a HUGE difference in the presentation of this card. It couldn’t be any more perfect. You have yourself a Terrific Tuesday my friend.

    • Thanks, Grace! Sometimes I have to let the images sit there for an hour or so before I can figure out exactly what they need. Hope your day is terrific, too!

  7. Congratulations on your “Cut Above” award Brian, that card was such a CAS classic, went to Pin it onto my CAS board.
And this card is just as beautiful, with that awesome detail of that snipped out little plane, love the paper too, subtle but it works beautifully here.

  13. Amazing!!! Absolutely stunning Brian. You have outdone yourself.

  14. Well Brian – I loved last week’s PP card and I love this one just as much! A clever combination of stamp sets and I adore the fussy cut airplane – perfectly positioned, although I can’t help but think that a 1/4″ higher could hide the fact that the UK has been completely missed off the globe stamp – what was the SU! designer thinking?! Nice use of the striped background too. A perfect take for my challenge this week – way to go and thanks for joining us again over at The Paper Players this week!
