A Flowering Fields Thank You for GDP027

I love sharing my Global Design Project cards with you each and every Monday.  What an incredible group we’ve created – and the participation has been amazing (so many amazing cards!).  This week’s theme is “Thank You” – and I’ve created a clean and simple card with an adorable terrarium with my Stampin’ Up! products.  Here’s my card:

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:GDP027

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Build-a-Terrarium.  Tiny plants and succulents have been really trendy in the paper crafting world for a couple of years – several stamp companies have promoted adorable build-your-own-terrarium stamp sets , but we don’t have anything like that at Stampin’ Up!.  Who doesn’t want to create an adorable terrarium with sweet, tiny  plants?  As I was performing my daily review of my current stamp sets, I laughed at how one of the flowers in Flowering Fields looks like it has little artichokes on it.  A couple of creative punches and a little bit of stamping and coloring, and I turned this stamp into an adorable terrarium.  Here’s the Sale-a-Bration set I used for my project:

  • Tiny Thanks.  What better to pair with this adorable, teeny terrarium than this sentiment from One Big Meaning?  Well, there’s actually a big thanks behind this card – our design team members wanted to send our cards to stampers who have been playing along with our challenges.  What a fun idea!  My card is currently making its way to Maine (USA) to thank my friend Dawn MacKay at Stamping Peace for her continuous participation in our challenge and for her friendship.  Dawn has been featured as a winner in our challenge, but it’s the fact that she always plays along that makes me most grateful.  I hope this little card means a lot to Dawn.Dawn MacKay
  • Staying Neutral.  I am a fan of all colors, but there’s something really special about a very earthy color combination.  This collection of browns and greens makes me very happy.  They are so serene!  If you like these colors, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! 2. simply lovely!

  3. Love the creative way you’ve used the stamp set. It’s a lovely card.

  4. Great card Brian! I think the “artichokes” are meant to be an Australian wildflower (maybe Waratahs). Lol. I can just see you in the fungeon laughing at your stamp sets. ???

  5. what a great idea! Lovely card 🙂

  6. What an adorable way to use this set. Great card Brian.

  7. Well now I have a new way of looking that Flowering Fields, I love the “artichokes” That comment made me laugh out loud! I totally see that now.

You are totally amazing and clever! I am always wowed by the creative ways you look at stamp sets, using them in ways that I think “How does he do that”.

Dawn is going to love love love that you created your card for her.

  8. I love it! Such a clever idea! I love the way you’ve used this set Brian! I’m sure Dawn will love it too! 🙂

  9. Suzie Patt Cullen

Love your little artichokes! And the terrarium! ❣

  10. Could you also add the size of your cards? The descriptions are great and easy to follow. Sometimes, I think your cards are bigger than the A2 cards that Stampin Up uses.

    • Kathy – almost all of my cards are standard-sized, and I typically note it if they are a different size. Because I photograph them from the bottom of the card, the perspective might make them look bigger. This card front is 4-1/4″ wide by 5-1/2″ tall.

  11. Out of the box creative! I adore the terrarium……and I don’t say that to everybody ?

  12. What a clever idea using the Flowering Fields, which I will be getting shortly. Terrariums are so trendy now as home decor and in cardmaking. Thanks so much for the idea. Have a great day.

  13. That’s funny Brian I thought I was the only one who saw artichokes. I created a card back in January and said exactly the same thing.

  14. Brian, you made me laugh right out loud when I opened your blog this morning. Never in a million years would I ever have thought that my photograph would be on your blog. Too funny! And thank YOU for helping to bring such a fun challenge to life every week…I look forward to it every Monday and love playing along. The card is adorable and I love the color combination. I’ll treasure it! Peace, my friend.

  18. At first I thought you used the little stamps from the ‘stamp a latte’ (that is what I named them) from the Paper Pumpkin. But the wildflowers! Genius! Thank you for sharing!

  19. SIMPLY beautiful. Love the color choices, and the clever use of the top of the flower stems to imitate succulents. ?

  20. I completely did not recognise these little plants, so you fooled me too. Yah! Now I can recreate your gorgeous terrarium. This is the bomb, lucky Dawn!

  21. What a great card Brian ! Great to make a terrarium, for me it looked like a snow globe when I saw the thumbnail on the GDP blog…;-)

  24. What a lovely card for a lovely Lady! Dawn is a amazing paper crafter !!! And you are truly brilliant!!!!!!

  25. I love the layering you did on your card too! Can you give the dimensions?

    • Pam – I don’t have the card anymore, but I’d imagine the Pear Pizzazz layer is about 1/2″ in on all sides to create that border. Play with it and find sizes you like best – mine aren’t always standard. Thanks for your kind words.

  26. Cute as! Thanks for being so inspiring Brian!
    xo
