One Big Meaning … Thank You for PPA

Beth Beard is hosting this week’s sketch at Pals Paper Arts.  I found it challenging to include all the pieces of her sketch, but I was super-happy with the outcome.  And – as you would expect – I added lots and lots of layers to frame almost every element on this card.  There’s no better way to say “thank you” than with a lovely card.  Right?  Here’s the card I created:

While creating my card for this week’s PPA sketch, I also incorporated a color challenge from Can You Case It? (to use three colors).  Since this week’s challenge at Global Design Project features a “thank you” theme, I’ve added my card there, too.  Here are the banners for the challenges that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Flip-a-doo.  I love this sketch, but I really wanted the circle to be the star of my card – and I wanted to square piece to be the support for that circle.  When I flipped the sketch over, everything easily fell in to place for me.  When playing along with challenges like this one, you don’t have to follow a sketch exactly.  It’s intended to be inspiration, so feel free to make adjustments as necessary.
  • Too Much of a Good Thing.  My original card had a Calypso Coral base.  I hemmed and hawed over how I could fix it before gluing everything down.  A quick squinting allowed me to pinpoint that my senses were overwhelmed by all the Calypso Coral.  A simple switch-out to an Old Olive base saved everything – it really helped me to “ground” the card in a pleasing way.  My eyeballs said, “ahhh!”  I only said that because I think it’s funny to say “eyeballs”.  Tee hee.
  • Three Colors.  Can You Case It challenged us to use three colors – I used this piece of Pretty Petals Designer Series Paper Stack as inspiration for my colors.  Calypso Coral, Old Olive and Basic Black really pair well with Very Vanilla.  If you like this combination, too, please save this:Stampin' Up! 1. I like your choice of the Old Olive base . It pulls the green out in the dsp plus I have to agree with your “eyeballs” (snicker -giggle) the CC would have been way too strong !! Love the font on this sentiment and your flip of the sketch works !! Pretty card !

  2. Brian, you make a tough sketch and a tough color combination look easy! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

  4. Hi Brian:

I love the poppy DSP. I think that was a bit of a difficult design challenge but, let’s face it, when the design is too easy it isn’t much of a challenge right? Anyhow – you did a fantastic job with this one and I think your card is just gorgeous.

  5. Your squint is right on point! This thank you sentiment is my favorite and matting it in a circle is the best! Love this color combo.

  6. Clever “flip” of the design. I love the simple mix of floral and shape. The font and sentiment look amazing inside a circle.

  7. Great card! You did an amazing job creating 1 card that fit 3 challenges. I’m impressed. I too like the “flip” version of the sketch.

In there you said about this challenge so i have jumped on to look first up this morning. … let me say quietly im not a fan of green unless its grass or plants (hehehe) however i LOVE LOVE LOVE it with this card, it makes my eyeballs happy maybe because it highlights the plant in the dsp.
